These guys do it again with this one. They should be known better. Thanks
Love it! Thank you!
I’m not aware of this single by The Associates. The single “Party Fears Two” was my only knowing of them.
Thanks for this, Paul 🙂
Thanxaverylotvery, Paul! Another missing from my past not anymore missing 🙂
Wonderfull track, never heared this version as I know of. Their Breakfast-track was huge in our bedrooms in those days. And Waiting for the love boat.. for going crazy miming trees in a storm on a dancefloor 🙂 Aw heck, we all loved the album.
So glad there weren’t any cellphones with camera’s in those days.
I know my singing brother-in-law will go nuts over this one finding his voice 🙂
😀 😀 😀 OH MY GOD
PLEASE PLEASE POST A STRING OF ASSOCIATES 12″.
I remember the stories from the Associates mailing list way back when of how they were desperately trying to get Warner to release the Perhaps stuff in any usable form. They eventually released the album itself (none of the extras) as a bonus CD with the deservedly-unreleased album.
I will see what I can do David I have a few more of their singles from the “Perhaps” era 🙂
Thanks for this post. I was living in the UK when this was released and I heard it on a regular basis. It’s a surprise to me that its chart performance was mediocre (especially since I think this is such a great track, especially in its extended form.)
Thanks for sharing your memory of this great track with us VanceMan 🙂
Hi Paul – just to let you know the ID3 tags are a little out of whack on track 1 on both MP3 & Flac – not moaning, I know you like things to be just so. 🙂
I appreciate you letting me know Jermajesty. I have fixed the problem and re-uploaded the files. Cheers mate!
This is an exciting post for me Paul, because I really don’t know this band. I have heard of them and I am familiar with Billy Mackenzie because of his involvement with Yello. I’m really looking forward to it because it’s great to have that “first” experience with a song that I know is going to sound fantastic all because of you. Yeah, I’m jazzed about this one. Plus, I love the cover of the record because it features a black cat and I have a beloved feline whose name is Eclipse. It’s cool too because as a kid (and… Read more »
Jeff, after this 12″ go and hunt out Party Fears Two and Club Country (there’s TOTP performances on YouTube). He’s so sweet. It’s rumoured Morrissey wrote William It was Really Nothing about him.
Also check out The Glamour Chase documentary. So sad, but lots of sweet clips and fond memories of him.
Thank you Jermajesty, I am really curious now about the band so I will research them so much more. I love how they have certainly touched members of BTG. Paul, so has the telepathic pulse to what we all desire and his transformations of great sound is the perfect way to honor these artists. You have a wonderful weekend and thanks again!
Jeff
Yes, and Billy’s response to the Smiths track was the Associates track “Stephen, You’re Really Something.”
Thanks for the Associates run Paul, I believe I have all the vinyl Billy ever released, it’s so nice to have these perfect rips.
I love the sleeve too Jeff however I was a bit hesitant to post it due to all of the gun violence of late. I had no idea there was a back story to it. Have a lovely weekend.
Paul, you are such a dear soul. You always care about one’s feelings when you do post a record. I love your heart and this generosity you constantly lavish on us. I so wish you could be honored somehow someday and in someway. More than ever, I do hope that artists/producers/mixers etc., might reach out to you to express their feelings. You have given so many sound productions new life. It’s all so beautiful. I know I only know you from your wonderful site, but I genuinely have so many feelings of love and admiration for the truly beautiful individual… Read more »
Wow, I’ve never seen this one. Associates remind me of the dark half to A-ha. Despite the music, I can’t help but think of Billy’s tragic end when I hear him sing. Thanks!
I can see that Joey 🙂
Thanks Paul for this rarity. Billy truly had an awesome voice , especially when he sang in falsetto . Loved his work with Yello. Hopefully you could post some of his Yello singles next week?
We’ll see Omar 🙂
Oh man, I’m sitting in my favourite pub and ONJ’s Physical has come on the jukebox – It made me think to check BTG whereupon I find this amazing treat posted!! What a great Friday night – thanks DJpaul. 🙂 x
ONJ was sending you a telepathic message Jermajesty 🙂 Have a great weekend 🙂
Wow! A true rarity! I’ve always enjoyed the sound of The Associates, but I’ve never heard the extended version of “Those First Impressions”. Thank you for this one, Paul! Downloading it now …
You’re welcome Bellenger1981. Enjoy!! 🙂
