Another great set of songs. Thanks. Is there a chance of getting the 10 inch?

I meant to add in my earlier comment that the 10″ release of this is worth checking out as the flip includes 3 live tracks from his performance at Ronnie Scott’s jazz club. Amazing stuff!

Goodness me – this run of Associates posts is truly wonderful.

But the jewel in the crown is this B side “The Girl That Took Me”. A late night, smoky, whisky-sipping, Parisienne-style version which I’ve been desperately trying to locate for years. It brings me back to a visit a very young Regina made to London in ’85 when I picked up the 12″ in the much-loved and now sadly departed mahoosive HMV store in Oxford Circus.

Thanks for the memories Paul!

Regina,

“The Girl That Took Me” is pure beauty. It’s such an amazing arrangement and vocal performance. What a gem! I hadn’t heard it previous to Paul’s posting of this 12″. What a great find!

Hey Paul this is a new one on me, but excited to explore more of their catalogue. 🙂

Was desperately trying to think of some appropriate baby-arrival/song-name pun all Monday but drew a blank! 😀 Congratulations anyway! x

Great post, Paul! I first discovered this 12″ on a volume of “Retro:Active”. Great song! Thanks for your transfer/remaster!

Your transfer/remaster sounds amazing, by the way. So crisp and so clean! This is such a great track, too … perhaps my favorite from The Associates. I’m surprised at how poorly it performed on the U.K. singles chart.

I originally discovered this single after the Associates had ended but Billy was still alive. I fell head over heels in love with it and it’s still a favorite track. Thank you so much for sharing!

Congratulations to you and your family, Paul. Thanks for another Billy upload. Always been a huge fan and have pretty much everything he ever released, so it’s great to get your crystal clear versions. It should’ve been a big hit and I remember seeing the video getting shown on a late night music show. I’m a huge Yello fan too, so his collaborations with them are some of my favourite listening. One to look out for is the Call It Love (Trego Snare Version 2) 12″, which was a limited release available only in HMV stores as a freebie with… Read more »

This is a very enjoyable track, but clearly not commercial enough in the singles sense. Still should have fared better..

Thanks as always for the rip, Paul! 🙂

Welcome Back Paul!! I hope everything with your sister-in-law went smoothly. Congratulations again to the whole family!! Thanks for another record by The Associates. I enjoyed the last one and even broke out my Yello CD’s to hear Billy’s wonderful voice! I think it’s so great that you’re helping me to discover a band I only heard about. Plus, with the rare 12-inch postings, makes the discovery all the more to be celebrated. I just love how you pick and choose records, no matter their chart success or not. It’s all music for music’s sake. I love the aural art… Read more »
