Burning The Ground Exclusive
Few songs capture the energy and emotion of late 80s Freestyle quite like “Spring Love (Come Back to Me)” by Stevie B. Released in 1988 as the third single from his debut album, Party Your Body, the track became a defining moment in his career, helping solidify his place as one of the genre’s biggest stars.
“Spring Love” saw greater chart success than Stevie B’s previous singles, almost breaking into the Top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at No. 43. More importantly, it became his first major hit on the Dance charts, reaching No. 5—a sign of bigger things to come. The following year, Stevie B would break through with “I Wanna Be the One,” a song that carried the same irresistible blend of Latin Freestyle beats, soaring synths, and heartfelt lyrics.
With its pulsating drum machines, lush keyboard arrangements, and Stevie B’s yearning vocals, “Spring Love” perfectly captures the bittersweet longing for a lost romance. It became a staple in nightclubs, roller rinks, and freestyle dance floors, earning a permanent place in the hearts of fans.
The song’s enduring popularity led to a 2007 remake featuring Pitbull, introducing it to a new generation while keeping the nostalgic vibe alive. To this day, “Spring Love” remains one of Stevie B’s most beloved tracks and a true classic of the Freestyle era.

Thank you for another fantastic classic 12″ in perfect DjPaulT quality!!! I have always loved this song and Because I Love You (The Postman Song). Freestyle is perfect summer vacation music. Light and fluffy, with cheesy lyrics, layered over great dance beats. I still often listen to artists like Debbie Deb, Collage, Larissa, K5, Planet Soul, Lil’ Suzy, Timmy T., Alisha, Rockell, Robin Fox, ….
I know Stevie B from his big hits, but somehow this one never made it onto my radar. Catchy and really shows his talent. Happy Spring everyone!! Thank you Paul, I really love all the deep dives you’re bringing out!
Although still on vacation, I cannot thank you enough for this awesome rip! If I remember correctly, it has some great stutter effects! Be back soon and will thank you even more and give more insights into Gwen and Stevie!
You’re welcome, Fred. The “Dub” has amazing stutter edits.
YES!!! EDITS!!!!
Hey Fred!! What did you think of the Spear of Destiny record, Paul, posted the other day with the Omar Santana edits?
Enjoy your vacation, Fred!
Jeff
whoa!! great one today, Paul!! Thanks!!
You’re welcome, Raymond 🙂
Such a feel good track and these mixes offer great variety too. I used to hear multiple mixes on a radio station back in the day.
Thanks Paul 🙂
You’re welcome, Mark 🙂
Happy Spring, Paul and BTG friends!! I LOVE THIS SONG!! It means so much to me. During this time period, Freestyle was massive in the New York, New Jersey, and the Connecticut areas!! This genre was everywhere, at the beach, in cars, amusement parks, clubs, just about everywhere!! This song especially meant so much to me personally. The record had a great melody and production, too. Gosh, I miss those days! Unfortunately, the genre suffered from poor productions and lame singers. But, still, there were exceptional records alongside the horrible ones! Thank you, Paul, for this excellent record!! You are… Read more »
Happy Spring, Jeff!
“Spring Love” doesn’t bring back many personal memories for me, aside from hearing it on mix shows. Freestyle wasn’t very big in Oklahoma City at the time—hair bands and rock ruled the scene back then. That said, I absolutely love this track. It has such a feel-good vibe, capturing all the emotions that come with the arrival of spring.
