Thanks for the post, and all the excellent work you do to bring us so many classics! Just wanted to add that “Shy Girl” did in fact chart on the Hot 100 – for 11 weeks, despite peaking at #89. This was in early 1987, after “Two of Hearts” and “We Connect” peaked. I believe it’s one of the lowest peaking songs to have spent 10 or more weeks on the Hot 100, in fact! One request I’d have is maybe a Tommy Page tribute single or two if you have them – it was very sad to hear of… Read more »

As always a big thank you DjPaulT! Always liked Stacey Q. She has had so many great tracks over the years and is a very underrated artist. I did not know this debut single from her though. The dub version is awesome. I think most people in S.A. probably know Stacey Q from her hit “Two of Hearts” which was played a lot down here at the time. “We Connect” is also another good track from that era and similar sounding to “Two of Hearts”. But for me, 1989’s “Give You All My Love” is probably my favourite from her,… Read more »

I am blown away, Paul, over this Stacey Q confection. I love this electro piece so much. The drum programming is intricate and that dub is to die for!!! To me, this is her best, but I’m not too familiar with her entire back catalog. “Two Of Hearts” was alright, but the sampling of “I Need You” really didn’t impress me much. Sure, it wasn’t a John Robie production, but this one is massively creative and is so alternative new wave electro. This is my kind of music for sure. Again, hats off to you Paul for giving me a… Read more »

Thanks Paul,
I never heard of this song before but it sounds great.
Echo, voice effect and pattern drums with electro bass… awesome.
More Stacey Q post, especially “Don’t make a fool of yourself”.
Respect.☺

I would love it if he did “Insecurity”, “Music Out of Bounds”, “I Love You” and “Give You All Your Love”.

Paul, this is a fantastic post! I realize it was a thematic follow-up to “Shy Boys,” but I beg you to do series of Stacey Q singles. I feel like she was vastly underrated. So much of her post “Two of Hearts” material deserved more attention.

What an incredible find, Paul!! I am not aware of this single until now, thanks to you. I love these rarities you have. I do like Stacey Q, so I’m interested in hearing this one. So cool of you to expose us to it. Gosh, when I come here to BTG, I feel like I’m back in my youth with this constant craving for new and unusual music. The 80’s were such a blast. Even a co-worker of Karen’s was singing “Jukebox” by The Flirts today. I commented that this was a decade of so much innovation and experimentation. And… Read more »

Paul, I really, really, REALLY LIKED, “Shy Boys” by Ana. I couldn’t get the melody out of my head. I would have loved hearing this on a big club sound system. It’s so much fun and frothy. I’m really loving the theme for this week. Great 80’s songs by great 80’s Ladies. Perfect in everyway.
