Burning The Ground Exclusive 1988
“I Love You” recorded by Stacey Q was released as the second single from her sophomore album, Hard Machine. Written and produced by Jon St. James, the track showcases Stacey Q’s signature dance-pop sound with infectious beats and catchy melodies. Despite not reaching the mainstream heights of her earlier hit “Two of Hearts,” “I Love You” made its mark in the dance music scene, peaking at #49 on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs chart.
The song’s production reflects the late-’80s club era, with vibrant synths and a driving rhythm that keeps the energy high. It’s a quintessential example of Stacey Q’s appeal during this period, blending pop sensibility with danceable grooves.

Welcome back Paul!! I hope you had a nice holiday. This is totally new to me, so again, thank you for being our tour guide into the realms of the lesser known and the oft overlooked! Excited that these are all vinyl-only mixes. Thanks again!
I hope you had a great holiday as well, Retro Hound. Enjoy!
This release is so typical for 1988/1989 when the bigger labels like Atlantic, MCA etc wanted to cash in on the “housey” sound that was popular in the clubs and even started to get airplay on radio (more so in EU than US). The funny thing is that these mixes were a sort of “soft” hybrid, afraid to fully embrace the proper house music sound, which was probably too soulful. So we get open hi-hats, four on the four kick a bit of tingly piano chords and a not too agressive bassline with a hi-nrg vibe in this particular case.… Read more »
You’re welcome, Martika. What I loved about Stacey Q was that she had her sound, thanks partly to Jon St. James, who knew how to produce her. I also like the harmonizing vocal effects.
Welcome back, Paul. Thank you for this. I must admit that I don’t know much about Stacey Q outside “We Connect” and “Two Of Hearts”, her biggest (only?) hits in Australia.
I don’t really have anything to add to the conversation, I just wanted to say she looks uncannily like Christina Amphlett on that front cover!
You’re welcome, Gordon. The two songs you mentioned were her only two radio hits in America but she had several that impacted the dance chart. I agree with you she does look like Christina.
Yes, he is back…hope you’re doing well…
Thank you for the upload.
You’re welcome 🙂
Hey Paul, glad to see you got your stylus back in the groove! I know exactly how you must feel – all the Santa Ana winds here stirring up my allergies; wild fires putting more irritants in the air; plus an unpleasant cold & congestion thanks to my nephew who rarely gets sick, but just had to share it with me. So everyone stay well and avoid hot rooms with people where germs multiply this time of the season so y’all have a Happy Holiday 2024!
I hope you are somewhere safe those fires certainly mean business it is sad to see. Kids are pea-tree dishes full of germs lol Stay safe my friend and feel better soon. We are all thinking about everyone affected.
Thanks for another Stacey Q 12”, although this one passed me by for some reason. It is catchy and infectious though. Love the artwork too.
My favourite was Don’t Make A Fool Of Yourself with those Shep Pettibone remixes.
Cheers Paul
You’re welcome, Mark. “Don’t Make A Fool Of Yourself” was my favorite too.
Thanks for the share Paul!
You’re welcome, johnny42 🙂
Welcome back, Paul!! I hope you’re feeling like your old self again. Also, I hope it didn’t get in the way of your Thanksgiving celebration.
I love that you returned and that you gave us this fantastic single by, Stacey Q. I love her and her brand of dance pop. I can’t wait to hear the Scott Blackwell mix. I remember listening to him on the weekend’s dance parties on the old WKTU. He was excellent at the turntables!!
I’m so glad you’re back, Paul. We missed you! It’s not quite the holidays without you!!
Jeff
You’re welcome, Jeff. I am feeling better but some of the symptoms are still hanging on. Luckily it happened after Thanksgiving so I did enjoy the holiday. This is a pretty underrated song in my book. I hope you enjoy the mixes.
