Sheena Easton – Eternity (Shep Pettibone Mix) (US 12″)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1987

A. Front

Re-Rip Remaster

Originally I posted this one on November 17, 2010. But for those who may have missed it or if you are a new reader just discovering BTG. I decided to give this one a new rip with my newer Ortofon 30 stylus. This 12″ is also being posted in 24 bit flac for the very first time!

“Eternity” was the first and only single released from Sheena Easton’s eighth studio album “No Sound But Heart”, the album’s original U.S. release was canceled, but the album was issued in Canada and Mexico. The album was eventually reissued in 1999 by the One Way Records label, marking the first time it has been officially available in the United States.

‘Eternity” was written and produced by Prince and remixed by Shep Pettibone. Prince also plays guitar on the track under the alias Freddie “The Phantom”. The single failed to chart and was Easton’s final release on the EMI label, where she had started her career. She subsequently moved to MCA Records the following year in 1988.

The b-side “Shockwave” is a non-lp track written by Narada Michael Walden and guitarist Jesse Johnson.

Paul,

I love the stateliness of this one. Prince composes in so many different styles, it’s mind blowing. Also love “Telepathy” (Deborah Allen) another great 12″ which I belive you’ve featured before.

Thanks for the Sheena. She’s a solid vocalist who usually delivers when the material is good.

Future: if you get back to her sometime later, and do “101”, I’d love to hear the single mix. I think 101 is a track where the remixes diluted instead of enhanced the song.

Thanks for all you do!!!

Thank you, DjPaulT, for the Sheena remixes. Really grateful for them. And I, too, look forward to when you rip more of Sheena’s singles.

My all time favorite Sheena album which I had to get from Canada! Thanks for all the artistes you bring – many I have forgotten or not heard a particular song. Not everything in the 80’s was spectacular – all you have to do is look at the hairdos to know that there was a great deal going on in the musical spectrum. Keep up the great work…..SHEENA 101 in the future please – A Prince-tastic epic song that should have been a massive hit.

This has always been one of my favorites of Sheena’s. It sounded very different, at least to me, than what was on the radio at the time. Seemed almost “alternative” at the time-at least to my ears! Thank you DJ Paul!

Thank you so much for posting this. I had never heard the remix to this song. I bought the single when it came out and really liked the song. Great to finally hear the remix! Thank you so much!

… or ever! I remember the BBC TV show that made her famous. I’ve never forgiven them.

You did just great Paul. And by the way, I really like series of one artist once in a while.

Although I wouldn’t mind taking in a few more, maybe it’s time to close this series 🙂

As a long-time fan of Ms. Easton’s, I’ve been loving the “streak” of her recordings you’ve posted lately, and look forward to more whenever you get to them. (I understand you not wanting to over-do it on any particular artist.)

Didn’t expect another one. Thanks Paul. We are through the Sheena mixes by now, I guess? Or will you add the absolutely divine vinyl DMC only Ben Liebrand remix of ‘The Lover In Me’ to your blog?
