“Sneakyville” was the eighth and final single released by Scottish synth-pop band Secession. the song was taken from the band’s only studio LP “A Dark Enchantment” released on Siren Records.
The original incarnation comprised Peter Thomson (guitar, keyboards, synthesizer, and vocals), Jack Ross (guitar, synthesizer and vocals), Jim Ross (bass guitar), and Carole L. Branston (keyboards and vocals). The band used a small pre-programmed drum machine.
Oddly none of the band’s singles charted in the UK or US. After the release of “Sneakyville,” the band broke up and some members went on to form the alternative rock band The Vaselines. A music video was not released for this song.
++ As a NEW bonus track I have included the Hot Tracks Remix Service mix. Mark Watkins worked with both the CD & 12″ versions. He blended them together with great expertise and voila! this great song now has a smooth intro, an intense break, and a long exit, for those procrastinating Dee-jays…
The Hot Tracks Mix was taken from Series 8, Issue 1.

Hi, thanks so much for this post! Would you happen to know when this album–or the Sneakyville single–was released in the US? I’m not clear if the 1987 release year was worldwide or just in the UK. Thanks in advance for any tidbits!
I absolutely LOVE THIS SONG!!! I remember being disappointed when I first listened to their full-length album and quickly realized that there were no other “gothic” synthpop/darkwave songs on there. Meanwhile I love the full album with a ll the excellent synthpop dance tracks, but this is still their standout track! And I’ve always loved the fact that they named their Dub version on the B-side something completely different instead of simply “Song Name (dub remix)”.
You can’t imagine how happy I am that I finally have a perfect transfer of this vinyl! THANK YOU!!!
btw, thank you for the bonus remix. I always wished there were more remixes of this song. Mark Watkins followed the RAZORMAlD concept for this mix by extracting the best parts of the available mixes and mixing them into one seamless extended version. Coincidentally, I’m surprised that Joseph Watt never tried his hands on this song. It seemed to fit their concept at that time.
Hey Martika, Your comment here is such a highlight for me personally. I love it when we get a deejay’s point of view. I’m a huge Razormaid! fan. This was thee alternative remix service. Joseph Watt and Art Maharg (R.I.P) did some great mixes by including all available versions (the best parts of) in one perfect mix. Too bad they didn’t remix/re-edit this tune. However, they did do a mix to the flipside’s “All The Animals Come Out At Night” on one of their releases. Joseph and Art didn’t necessarily follow the charts or anyone else. They remixed what they… Read more »
You are spot on, Jeff! Razormaid was definitely the go-to choice for us back in the day! I don’t think I missed a single vinyl release when they came out (too bad I lost my entire vinyl collection). Oddly enough it was easier and cheaper for me to buy the Razormaid volumes than to buy each track individually on 12″. And every song was guaranteed to work on the dancefloor. The same thing goes for Rhythm Stick. I think the problem for Joseph Watt was that Synthpop never really quite reached the mainstream back than, which is why bands he… Read more »
Well, I just realized something interesting! My vinyl from back in the day was a Promo (white label) pressing, sent to me by the record pool I subscribed to. [Sneakyville was misspelled on it as Sneaky Ville] It had the extended version on one side and “All The Animals Come Out At Night” on the flip side – however, the B-side of my pressing was actually an instrumental version of Sneakyville”, which I always assumed was that song. I don’t even see that version (or any instrumental version) on Discogs. So, I must have had a very rare pressing! Too… Read more »
Wow! very cool
You’re welcome, Martika 🙂
Thank you Paul!! As Jeff said, you’re thinking outside the “coffin”! So nice to hear these releases that are off the beaten path and not your standard Halloween fare. Spooky indeed!
You’re welcome, Retro Hound 🙂
This is one of the songs I discovered via BTG and play regularly, so thanks for the repost and new mix.
You’re very welcome, Bob 🙂
Love, Love, LOVE THIS!!!! Oh, Paul, thanks for this new re-rip and, especially, for the Hot Tracks remix!!! This is like getting an extra sonic hug from you!! This band is so tremendous and how I wish I bought the original album. They do have this spooky vibe.
You’re making this October one to remember.
So grateful!!!!
Jeff
You’re welcome, Jeff. I love your enthusiasm for music 🙂
Thanks. Looking for to this unknown one with the bonus DJ mix to boot! I don’t know this although the band name and their next band sound familiar!
I hope you end up liking it, ING 🙂
Thank you Paul
Could you please upload the Pat Benatar – We Live For Love (UK 12”) (1980) in 24Bit again? I pulled it out at the beginning but the password didn’t work. I would be very grateful to you.
