Burning The Ground Exclusive 1985
NEW 2024 Transfer
NEW Meticulous Audio Restoration
Original post date: March 9, 2012
“Perfect Way” was only a modest hit in the UK, peaking at #48, but it became Scritti Politti’s biggest success in the U.S. The song entered the Billboard Top 40 on October 26, 1985, and spent 13 weeks on the chart, reaching its peak at #11.
Notably, the “Perfect Way” version featured on the ‘A’ side of this single is unique and otherwise unavailable elsewhere. It differs from the Kevorkian mix found on the standard UK and German 12″ singles. It is longer than the U.S. 12″ single version mixed by Alan Meyerson, François Kevorkian, and Josh Abbey (credited as Committee). While the label lists an incorrect runtime, the actual duration is 7:24.

this song was ok, they had better ones
Greetings Paul,
i am a bit late to the party, but what a nice surprise to find this unknown to me remix of a Scritti Politti tune!
This band had such a unique sound, instantly recognizable.
Their Cupid & Psyche album is one i can always listen to from start to finish, just feelgood music, with some serious lyrics too.
If you have any other Scritti Politti twelvers, i am all ears 😉
Thanks very much for all the aural goodness you share with us Paul!
peace,
dj
I really, really love this song and especially the various mixes over several 12″s. It sticks in my mind quite strongly as a song that was very popular during the Christmas season of 1985 and even some of the instruments in the song were just a tad Christmas-y. Thanks for the great rip, Paul!
I love this band for it’s infectious grooves and melodies. Green Gartside has such a unique voice too.
I’m surprised this didn’t chart inside the Top 40 in the UK.
Cheers Paul
Cheers, Mark 🙂
Oh Yes! Scritti Polittis Basslines hits you right in the face…Boom. Thx Paul.
You’re welcome 🙂
Hi Paul. Thank you for sharing this Scritti Politti track that I consider as a lost gem of the 80s. This is such a feel good music that really captures the generation.
My thoughts exactly, Chad 🙂
I have the orig US 12″ single but I didn’t know about this one. Sounds excellent. Thank you!!
You’re welcome 🙂
Thanks for this update Paul!! My second favorite genre is 80’s dance/pop and this pretty much exemplifies that! So catchy, such feel good music! Like Walking On Sunshine. And I’m excited about the exclusive extended mix on the A-side. That’s one thing I love about US 12″ and 7″ promos, all the exclusive mixes that were sent to radio stations to promote their singles. Ah, when record companies actually existed. When music & collecting was fun. When people had good taste… Don’t get me started, LOL!! Thank you Paul!!
We could have a whole thread about what is different about today’s music industry. I love promo too they are some of my favorite records to collect. 🙂
It’s actually quite easy to exemplify what is different about today’s music industry. Instead of remix singles, labels just release a “Sped Up Version” and a “Slowed + Reverb” version. It doesn’t get lazier than that. 🙂
Absolutely Martika. And forget about including exclusive B-sides anymore. In fact, they won’t even include so much as an instrumental track. Not even a live track. No scraps for us!
And lastly, no innovation in production. Everything has sounded the same for at least the past 20 years.
Yeah, you nailed it. You can play a song from the late 90s right next to a brand new song and most people wouldn’t recognize a difference.
even better, when artists do release “Deluxe Editions”, they usually release them at the same time as the normal edition, … and they’re both available through streaming?
I think you’re being overly generous by calling it an industry today 😀
What about boom there she’s was us 12” remixed and edited by dj Steve Thompson
it sounded like chep Nunez edits for boom there she was post it tomorrow ok
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!
You’re welcome 🙂
Yessss! This is one of the best songs ever! I have a promo 12” of it and I wonder if this is the same or not? Once again you’ll have me digging in my archives! Just love it… thanks for this rip! 🎉
I love making you dig ING lol.
LOL it’s one of the fun things about your site! Discovering unheard gems, missed remixes, and things I forgot I had! The life of a music addict! 😆
Hey Paul! I’m clicking on the links given to download the track and all I am getting is the artwork and info. What am I doing wrong? Devon.
Hi, Devon, I have not had anyone else mention an issue. Try downloading again is my only suggestion.
I am very happy you gave this twelve a new polishing! This version is bliss, Paul. It was my first introduction to the band. I love these mixes so much! You herald the 80’s so much! We’re all so lucky!
Jeff
P.S. Thanks again for those “Sadeness” mixes, Paul. I’m still in a state of intense tumescence!!
Jeff, you always bring a smile to my face!
You too, Retro Hound! You are one of my favorite people following Paul’s blog! I’m glad you’re here. You are such a great guy! I can tell by what I read and see of your comments. You’re absolutely AWESOME!!
