Roger Daltrey – Hearts Of Fire (UK 12″)

Burning The Ground Exclusive 1987

“Hearts of Fire” was the first single taken from the seventh solo studio album “Can’t Wait To See The Movie” by The Who frontman Roger Daltrey. “Hearts Of Fire” was the only single from the album to chart reaching #88 on the UK singles chart.

“Hearts of Fire”, was written by Russ Ballard. Ballard played guitar on this track, as well as providing backing vocals.

The flip-side includes an exclusive remix of “Quicksilver Lightning” which was written by Dean Pitchford and composed by Giorgio Moroder. The track is the theme song for the 1986 film Quicksilver starring Kevin Bacon, Jami Gertz, Paul Rodriguez, Louie Anderson, Laurence Fishburne, and Rudy Ramos. The film was directed by Thomas Michael Donnelly. The film went quite unnoticed, so both the song and the film are not easily remembered.

The song was released as a single in April 1986, and was a minor success on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Charts, reaching number 11.

The album this single came from has been sitting in a used bin near me for over a month. I’ll have to pick it up now after hearing this single.

Thanks for “Quicksilver Lightning” especially! I’m a bit of a Moroder fanatic but I never knew there was an extended version of that!

Roger has the talent to make the most mediocre ’80s pop material epic when he performs it!

Excited to see this appear – The Who (and related solo releases) is one of my favorite bands.

Really appreciate all the time and care you take to bring us these wonderful archival releases digitized. Thanks so much Paul!

Fantastic post! Didn’t know about this single. Just love it! The song Quicksilver lightning is also new to me. I hope there will be more rock singles to come. Happy new year Paul and all the beautiful community here, and thank you so much for your continued hard work.

Great work Paul!

This is one of those forgotten ’80’s rock classics, in a similar vein to John Parr/Meatloaf’s “Rock ‘n Roll Mercenaries”. I might have been one of the only few that bought it at the time 😂

This has nothing to do with the 1987 movie Hearts Of Fire with Rupert Everett and Bob Dylan. I remember some confusion at the time that this was on the soundtrack of that movie. It wasn’t, it was mostly Bob Dylan and Fiona.

Although that soundtrack does have Rupert Everett doing a cover of Tainted Love, believe it or not 😁

Wow Paul, you are really outdoing yourself this new year!! Really loving the rock remixes this week. Yes, this sadly forgotten release by Roger Daltrey is well-deserving of a reexamination. The Extended Version of Hearts Of Fire isn’t easy to find, and especially the exclusive mix of Quicksilver Lightning. I actually liked that single, so I’m thrilled to have this rare long remix!! I was seeking it out several years ago, and here we are. Thank you many times over!!

The 12” was also released here in Germany. But we haven’t heard anything about it here. At least I’m not aware of having heard the song here at the time. He’s not that bad at all. A bit long-winded, but rocky enough to catch your ear.
Thanks Üaul for your work and filling in the knowledge gap.
