Burning The Ground Exclusive 1989
“Somebody Like You” was the second single taken from American pop singer, songwriter, and record producer Robbie Nevil’s second studio LP “A Place Like This” (1988). At this point, Nevil had garnered four Billboard top 40 hits including his songs “C’est la Vie” (#2, 1986), “Dominoes” (#14, 1987), “Wot’s It to Ya” (#10, 1987), and “Back on Holiday” (#34, 1988).
“Somebody Like You” debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 on March 18, 1989, peaking at #68 on April 8, 1989, spending eleven weeks on the survey ending Nevil’s string of four consecutive Top 40 singles.

Thanks for this Paul!!
You’re welcome, Grant 🙂
Good to see more Robbie Nevil back on BTG. I enjoyed the previous singles you posted from him.
Thanks Paul 🙂
You’re welcome, Marco 🙂
Lo vi y no podia creerlo Paul. Infinitas gracias.
De Nada, Pedro 🙂
I bought this 12″ in 1989. I now have it (finally, thanks to you!) on mp3. Many thanks for posting these remixes!!
You’re welcome 🙂
Is the Closet 80’s badge a reference the artists fashion sense or undisclosed sexual orientation?
Neither
Another great C+C dance production!! Thanks so much for this record, Paul. Sad that this one ended his run in the Top 40. Maybe lack of promotion or changing tastes. I’m just happy you follow your instincts to post great records that deserve another spin and listen! I like to think that individuals in the “Industry” might discover the music you post and that there might be chances for a renewed interest in past music. Hey, it worked for Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill (Deal with God), so who knows!?
Jeff
You’re welcome, Jeff. This is another one that should have done much better. The song is infectious I have been humming the chorus all morning. Robbie is super talented he started playing guitar at age 11 and played in a series of cover bands. He began performing his original music and signed a publishing deal in 1983, writing songs for the Pointer Sisters; El DeBarge; Alison Moyet; and Earth, Wind & Fire.. I hope you enjoy it 🙂
I agree wholeheartedly Jeff! You would think the industry people and/or the artists themselves would be thrilled with the renewed attention. Who knows, such a dog eat dog world we live in! Thank you Paul for putting these underdog hits back in the spotlight where they belong!!
You’re welcome, Retro Hound 🙂
Thanks, Retro Hound!!
Jeff
I had no idea that C&C Music Factory remixed this song. It has a bit of a George Michael feel to it! Great production! Thank you for another excellent release!
@Jeff, if you want this song to get renewed attention, you have to use it as the background music for a really dumb TikTok video, and before you know it, it will climb to the top of the charts. That seems to be how it works now. lol
You’re right Martika! Absolutely pathetic.
Hi Martika,
There is a George Michael connection Chris Porter who produced this record was also the sound/recording engineer for Wham! through George’s solo LP “Faith” and “Listen Without Prejudice Vol.1”.
That makes perfect sense now!
Hey Martika,
Your right about Tik Tok. Although I’m not into this social media platform at all, I certainly understand the power it has to propel songs out to the collective consciousness.
Martika, you’re a genius!! I LOVE what you always have to say!!
Jeff
