Thanks for posting this Paul! This features on their CD Beers, Steers + Qveers along with a couple of bizarre versions of “(Let’s Get) Physical” that possibly started as an ON-J cover and maybe morphed into something unrecognizable legal reasons. Curiously, there are no songwriter credits anywhere on any of the various releases. The uncredited “additional cock” Trent Reznor played on the album. Next they went to Sire Records with the fine album Linger Fickin’ Good…And Other Barnyard Oddities featuring a great industrial cover of the Rod Stewart hit “Da Ya Think I’m Sexy?”
“(let’s Get) Physical” was originally an ONJ cover until her lawyers got involved because the band did not get permission. So they changed the lyrics.
Excellent upload, thank you! I’m also a big fan of Al and all of his projects. My buddy turned me on to Ministry, we’ve seen them together probably 5 or 6 times by now. I really enjoy them live, so loud! The last time we saw them, Al’s buddy Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick came onstage to play Supernaut for the encore, it was awesome!
You’re welcome 🙂
Another assault on the senses! It sounds familiar… Thanks for giving it a new lease on life!
Hey Retro Hound,
Thanks for giving the record a spin. I know it’s not for everyone, but I would have thought the record would get a lot more comments. I’m just grateful to Paul for shaking things up a bit with certain music. Whenever I see a record that I love show up on his Burning The Ground site, I feel I’m not alone in my musical tastes and that makes me feel quite good!
Havea great weekend, Retro Hound, and thanks again!!
Jeff
Thanks Jeff, I hope you had a great weekend! Yes it certainly is nice to know we’re not the only ones to appreciate certain records. No doubt there are lots of us out there! And of course, thanks to Paul for making this all possible. Talk to you on the next record!
Way to go, Paul!!! You’re kicking some “ASSphalt” now!! I can’t believe you posted this right after I mentioned it too. I really can’t thank you enough for this, put the pedal to the metal, Industrial jam!! This will certainly raise the testosterone in your male listeners!! A sonic cure for E.D. that’s for sure! It may not be to everyone’s tastes, but it sure brings out the rowdy side of one! I absolutely love music like this!! It gets the blood pumping!! Thank you so much, Paul! I can smell the petrol coming out from the speakers!!!! Burning The… Read more »
Al Jourgenson should rename himself to Al “Midas” Jourgenson, because everything he touched turned to gold! I love all of his side projects (1000 Homo DJs, Acid Horse, Buck Satan And The 666 Shooters, Lard, Pailhead, PTP, Revolting Cocks, Special Affect, …), and I’m glad he returned to his early 90s sound with Ministry on his last album as well as the 2 new tracks from his forthcoming album. Like Trent Reznor, he is one of the rare Industrial artists who also appeal to the mainstream because he knows how to produce infections dance grooves. I’ve seen Ministry live as… Read more »
I’m so glad you gave this record some love too, Martika!! You’re so right about Alain Jourgensen and his Midas touch. I’ve been a fan of his for years. And although I loved his “With Sympathy” album the best, I can really get into his later incarnations of Ministry and lots of his side projects as well. I find him and his music quite fascinating. I’ve seen him live twice and it has been an exhilarating and terrifying experience but quite fun. Thank you for acknowledging his genius!!
Have a great weekend!!
Jeff
“With Sympathy” is the most underrated synthpop album of all time!!!
I love the evolution of Ministry from Synthpop to Industrial … all the way up to ΚΕΦΑΛΗΞΘ … then he got a bit too industrial for my taste. Luckily, he is returning to his older sound, but I do wish he would have released another album like “With Sympathy”.
Amen, to that, Martika! I so love this album as there were great melodies and I loved Al’s faux British accent. I don’t really care what he says about it, but I truly believe he really loved synth-pop at the time. He even sang a jingle for Shasta soda that you can find on YouTube which has that same vocal styling. I would have loved to have seen Ministry back then. I was quite obsessed with this album back then (and still am)!!
