Burning The Ground Exclusive 1981
“Razzamatazz” is a lively, jazz-infused track by Quincy Jones, featuring the soulful vocals of Patti Austin. It’s from Jones’ 1981 album “The Dude”, a groundbreaking release that showcases his incredible versatility as a producer, composer, and arranger. The album itself is a genre-blending masterpiece, merging elements of jazz, R&B, funk, and pop, and “Razzamatazz” stands out as a prime example of this fusion.
The song’s upbeat tempo, vibrant brass section, and lively rhythm embody the playful energy of its title. Austin’s vocals add an infectious spark, perfectly complementing the lush instrumentation. “Razzamatazz” became one of the album’s hits, especially popular in the UK, where it reached the Top 20 on the singles chart, giving Quincy Jones a significant presence in pop and R&B.
“The Dude” was highly acclaimed, earning several Grammy Awards and becoming a commercial success. “Razzamatazz” helped to reinforce Jones’ reputation not just as a jazz musician but as a crossover artist capable of appealing to pop audiences worldwide. The song remains a classic example of early 80s jazz-pop, with its dynamic rhythm and colorful production still resonating with listeners.

Thank you for the Quincy tracks. He was a legend of a producer, conductor and composer. (Had great taste in women too – he got married to some real beauties – Ulla Andersson, Peggy Lipton, etc. But I digress…)
Rod Temperton is also one of my favorite songwriters; he wrote tracks for so many great artists. Everything from Heatwave, several MJ classics like Off The Wall and Thriller, plus Baby Come To Me (Patti Austin again), George Benson’s Give Me The Night, and Sweet Freedom for Michael McDonald.
Again – thank you!
Here is an example how it looks with full frequence range. This the Richard Marx track.
P.S.: this is not a complain. I am just wondering , because all your files having a very good quality with full frequency range. This is the first time seeing this…
Btw. : THX for the upload.
Hi Paul ,
Just wondering about this track. It looks like a VBR audio file. Frequencies above 24kHz are missing completly.
I have attached 1 pic (Quincy). Just wondering.
Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I don’t remember doing anything different in my workflow. The only change I’ve made is that I started using the latest version of Audition, but I’ve been using it for a few weeks.
My first thought was that you may have set the recording parameters wrong. The frequency cut looks too smooth. Maybe you recorded this track at 48khz/24bit?
Today, while experimenting with my setup, I noticed that the ASIO driver for my DAC seemed to be malfunctioning. I decided to install the ASIO4All driver, and after doing so, my waveform appeared normal. I plan to continue testing this. Additionally, I might have clicked the wrong button during the recording, as you mentioned.
Paul Parker-One Look is also affected.
Indeed. Unfortunately also Howard Jones – Things Can Only Get Better. However, this is really minor imperfections that are inaudible for most situations. It is not fair to ask Paul to go back and correct this. It does not make much sense and is not worth the hassle since he has now fixed the issue.
Martika : Howard Jones seems fine. I can’t see any issue with this one.
When I listen to this, I hear the seeds of Thriller! That familiar groove, like only Quincy Jones could give us. Of course it helps that the A-side was written by Rod Temperton. Thank you Paul! I admit this is either new to me or an old acquaintance. In either case it sounds fantastic!
Thank you, Retro Hound. It is a record that is easy to like 🙂
Dear Paul — The Quincy Jones / Patti Austin combo is great especially in extended mixes. By any chance to you have either “Do You Love Me?” or “The Genie” from her Quincy Jones produced album Every Home Should Have One? Each has a vinyl only extended mix:

I don’t have either, Brad but I have added them to my want list.
Great! Like Razzamatazz, both Do You Love Me and The Genie were written by the great Rod Temperton!
Great post. These vinyl only mixes are rare today and a great tribute to the one and only Quincy Jones! Thanks Paul.
You’re welcome, Brad 🙂
A soulful masterpiece from the much-loved Quincy Jones. Patti Austin on vocals made these two tracks even sweeter.
Thank you, Paul.
You’re welcome, Mark 🙂
Paul, when you post certain tracks, I get this incredibly warm and satisfying feeling. This record hits that spot with me. I love the album, “The Dude” by Mr. Jones. I had no idea there were extended versions like these, so I am incredibly elated by this 12-inch! The memories keep flooding in.
Quincy Jones is a talent none of us will ever forget!! Thank you, Paul, most highly!!
Jeff
