Burning The Ground Exclusive 1980
In The Name Of LOVE Week!
“We Live For Love” was the fifth single taken from the debut album “In The Heat Of The Night” by Pat Benatar, the single was released on Released: February 25, 1980.
We Live for Love”, which became Benatar’s first top-10 entry in any country when it rose to No. 8 in Canada, while also reaching the top 30 in the US, New Zealand, and Australia, her first sizable hit in the latter. In France, “We Live for Love” reached the top 40.
This 12″ contains the “new wave” mix which appeared on the original 1st pressing 1979 vinyl, cassette, and 8-track releases of the LP “In The Heat Of The Night” this version was later replaced on subsequent pressings with a remixed more rock version. Making the “new wave” mix pretty rare. As far as I know, it has never appeared on CD.

Hello Paul,
is it possible to upload this vinyl again? Unfortunately I get an error with the password.
Thanks for your great work.
Thanks!
The version on here is the UK single version, pretty close but not exactly the same as the rare 1st LP version. The LP has less reverb (especially on the snares), different EQ, wider stereo (including panning a synth left whereas on here it is centered), and at about 0:50 there is no doubled beat to create a drum fill.
Hi Paul,
Great upload! I Need A Lover is a great hidden gem.
Brought back a lot of memories!
Thank you 🙂
Sorry Paul, but don’t pay attention to what was mentioned above, I was having a keyboard problem on my pc, now I’m enjoying Pat Benatar, thank you very much
Dear Paul, thanks for the contribution, but it tells me that there are problems with the key, ufff something happened, I reiterate thank you very much
WOW! I love when you upload a super rare remix like this!
THANK YOU!
You’re welcome 🙂
Thank you for this one!
I went through my music drive to see if I had a copy of We Live For Love in its original mix, and didn’t.
But a funny thing – I did find a ripped MP3 from like 2008 that said ‘We Live For Love ’84’, and in the comments field I’d entered “DjPaulT”. That version is I think the 1985 remix from the We Belong 12″.
I hadn’t listened to it since like 2009 – not a bad remix, all in all.
Wow, a cover of that great Mellencamp song on the b-side – cool!!
Fantastic, thanks Paul!! I own the US 12″ Promo single with the rock remix, so I don’t think I’ve heard this version yet. I’m psyched!
You’re welcome, Retro Hound 🙂
Thank you so much, one of my favorite singers.
You’re welcome 🙂
Thanks for Pat! Unfortunately, 7-Zip throws a “wrong password” error when I attempt to decompress the 16-bit version. I’m doing nothing different from what has always worked in the past.
I had no idea this existed. It’s my fave Benatar single. Thanks so much!
You’re welcome 🙂
FYI: Speaking of Pat Benatar singles, it’s impossible to find the 7” US hit single version of “We Belong” on CD which opens cold with some additional vocals in the intro that are not present on the album version, or on any CD reissues that I’ve found so far. (BB #5, Rock #3, AC #34)
I will keep an eye out for it 🙂
Hey DJ xrey – some good news, the We Belong single mix is actually on a few CDs:
1987-Best Shots UK edition, though there’s a glitch on the intro (US version has the LP mix)1994-All Fired Up: The Very Best Of Pat Benatar – on CD 2, no glitch2004-Then ’80s Again Totally Oldies 7 – this is the CD I have
There’s a great thread on Pat Benatar’s single versions and which CDs they’re available on at the Top 40 Music on CD forum.
Thanks, David for the tips! Turns out I have Totally Oldies 7, but didn’t check out that track yet. My two Benatar GH CDs have the LP version. I never realized she had all these different single mixes over the years until I saw them on the Top 40 Music on CD forum.
Hi, I just wanted to chime in the single version of We Belong is also on the Canadian PolyTel Greatest Hits from 1994, I’ve had it since it first came out back then…
Great find, Paul! I wore out two copies of the single (remixed) version, though I knew it was different than the LP. I didn’t consider the remix “rock” at all, rather being a totally disco-type track with no guitars. If there was ever a song that deserved a 12” extended dance mix, it was the chugging, dancey “We Live For Love”. Unfortunately, in the “post-disco backlash era”, this never happened and could have stalled her career just as it took off with the next album “Crimes Of Passion” featuring “Hit Me With Your Best Shot”.
How exciting! Paul, kudos to you for digging this up. An original LP New Wave Mix makes me so happy!! What a rarity!! Thank you so much!!
Jeff
Thank you, Jeff 🙂
thanks a lot paul! It’s so hard to find singles of this great singer!
You’re welcome 🙂
The password problem should be fixed please clear your browser cache and try again. Thanks, Paul
Hey Paul, I cleared my cache and re-downloaded. For some reason still not working. Using rarextractor, btw. And thank you for all you do!
is the file name patweliveforlove16? if so the password should be working. I have downloaded it myself just to make sure.
Finally worked! Love the New Wave track! Thanks again!
burningtheground PASSWORD will NOT Open RAR.. bummer..
try again should be ok now.
burningtheground = not working
try again should be ok now.
Love me some Benatar! I can’t wait to hear this version, I was not aware there was an alternate mix! Love that cover…it screams new wave!
it’s been on CD. “The Very Best of Pat Benatar” (UK release). The front cover is blue. https://www.discogs.com/master/266034-Pat-Benatar-The-Very-Best-Of
I have that CD, and that’s not actually the original (“new wave”) mix. That’s a dance mix that came about during her Tropico era.
Yes you are right, I had forgotten that ‘84 remix. Maybe Pat will eventually allow deluxe editions of her albums.
That would be awesome for sure!
Password not working today for Pat Benatar on the flac or 24bit flac versions.
Same for me can’t unpack the files it say incorrect password!
A fun release, I forgot she covered Mellencamp!
The New Wave Mix is extremely rare. So this is a gem! Thank you. On the other hand, the usual password is not working. You may need to repack the files.
try again should be ok now.
Thank you, Paul. Yes, it works now. I still remember listening to this version on the radio way back in 1980 🙂
Thanks for sharing.
Wrong password though.
I thought you might want to know.
thanks try again should be ok now.
I’m getting an error saying that the files can’t be decompressed? Anyone else?
try again should be ok now.
I’m having trouble unzipping this one. I’m using the same password as always, but it won’t unzip.
try again should be ok now.
All 3 tracks have Love in the title…well played!
Thank you 🙂
I never new about this one. Great find! Thank you, as always.
You’re welcome 🙂
