Burning The Ground Exclusive 1979
“Totally Hot” is a song recorded by British-Australian singer Olivia Newton-John. It was released as the third and final single from her 1978 tenth studio album of the same name and reached number 52 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and number 92 on the Canadian RPM Top Singles chart.
“Totally Hot” was released as a double-A-sided single in the United States and “Dancin’ ‘Round and ‘Round” was sent to country radio, peaking at number 29 on the Hot Country Songs chart.
The song was remixed in the United States for its 7″ single release and has never appeared digitally or on Compact Disc. The LP “Totally Hot” has been released as a 45th Anniversary Edition available on CD and Vinyl but contains no bonus material.
A music video was shot for the song directed by Alan Metter and filmed at Century City Towers, Los Angeles, California.

I love it when you post ONJ because I know she was one of your favorites – and mine! Thank you!
You’re welcome, Grant 🙂
Ooh, I’ve been waiting years for you to do a transfer of this one! I have a transfer I did myself about 17-18 years ago, but every copy of this 7″ in my collection is of inferior sound quality and I was never very happy with the transfers I made. I’m thrilled to finally get a DJPaulT transfer of this! Thanks so much for doing this one. I certainly hope Primary Wave eventually gives Totally Hot the attention it deserves and releases a deluxe edition with all the bonus tracks included.
You’re welcome, David. I would not hold your breathe on Primary Wave they just released a 45th Anniversary edition and failed to add any bonus material. A missed opportunity.
And Primary Wave remastered Soul Kiss in late 2023, but no CD and no bonus tracks.
Yeah, I bought the coral-colored vinyl and the CD with the poster from the UK, but I wasn’t happy that they put so little effort into it. I bought the very cheap-looking Soul Kiss picture disc as well. (Was it really too difficult for them to create a record jacket for it?) Primary Wave started out somewhat well with Physical reissue, albeit with some pretty serious issues on the DVD. The If Not for You reissue was decent, too. Everything else they’ve done has been downhill from there. Why is it so hard for them to do their jobs and… Read more »
Thank you, David G. I had the pleasure of working on the previous ONJ remasters including, “Physical”, “Greatest Hits”, “Greatest Hits Vol.2”, and “If Not For You” for which I did the vinyl transfers on the tracks taken from acetates. I brought up all of the issues especially the DVD mastering for “Physical” to Vinny Vero but it all went on deaf ears. Primary Wave is just interested in the money which is why the latest products have been subpar. To be fair though most picture discs are issued in poly sleeves. I am not sure why Olivia sold her… Read more »
Oh, that’s terrible! 😀 Thanks for sharing though. ONJ has plenty of good records — this isn’t one of them.
Love every Livvy post you make and this is a rare one, thank you. What happened to your Olivia blog (more than physical) site?
Thank you. I closed the More Than Physical blog a few days ago because I rarely post on it anymore Burning The Ground takes most of my time.
Cool to see this remix finally get the digital makeover. Surprised it never reached the digital world, until now that is.
Thanks Paul 🙂
You’re welcome, Marco. Primary Wave just released the 45th Anniversary edition of the album but failed to add any bonus material. A real shame.
Fantastic cap to the week Paul!! First rock week, then 7″ week… We’re not worthy, Lol! Yes I second what Jeff and ING said below. This single remix is totally new to me and I’m sure so totally hot! (too easy for the bad puns on this one). Have a smokin’ hot weekend Paul, Jeff, ING, Fred, Martika and all the rest of the “hotties” here!!
Thank you Retro Hound. Have a great weekend 🙂
Way to go, Paul!! This song is one of my favorites from Olivia. I still don’t know why it made a poor chart appearance. Maybe, because it was so different to what she released before. It’s got this great funk and attitude and compels one to really turn it out on the dance floor (well, at least for me!) I love this “funk-tastic” sensual groove that drips of sex! I am really jazzed to hear this remix because it will probably make the song even better!! I can’t thank you enough for this, DjPaulT!! Have a “totally hot” weekend, Paul.… Read more »
ONJ looks fab in the video too. Have a great weekend 🙂
Did she ever not look fab? That this wasn’t a huge hit is a mind melting thought as it was a huge hit in my mind at the time and ever since! MIND. BLOWN. Givemewhatugot…
