BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1985
Originally posted August 28th, 2012
“Soul Kiss” was the first single and title track from Olivia Newton-John’s thirteenth studio album. A slinky number written by Mark Goldenberg (writer of ‘Automatic’ for the Pointer Sisters), was a moderate hit reaching the Top 20 in the US and Australia.
“Soul Kiss” was a continuation of Olivia’s move into more sexually suggestive territory that had begun four years earlier with “Physical”. Newton-John was pregnant at the time of the single’s release and was therefore unable to promote it. A music video was produced and received heavy rotation on MTV and VH-1, the video features a pregnant Olivia mostly filmed on a bed of red satin sheets, the video also featured Olivia’s husband at the time, Matt Lattanzi.

Thank you very much Paul.
Awesome post, Paul! “Soul Kiss” is one of my favorite ONJ singles!
Olivia is so hot in this 12″ cover photo!
Hi Paul, thanks as always for your magnificent rips. Quality plus.
Last night on tele here in Australia they started advertising a miniseries based on Olivia’s life, starring Delta Goodrem. It looks interesting. It’s not being screened until after the Commonwealth Games – keep an eye out for it – if you didn’t already know! Very best..
Looking back, I remember when I was a kid the song ‘Physical’ was all over the radio and I just remember me and my sister always singing it. It was everywhere. And then I remember Olivia’s Greatest Hits, Vol. 2 came out and I remember someone buying it for me and my favorite song om there was ‘Heart Attack’ along with many others. And I instantly became a huge Olivia fan, even before really seeing the movie ‘Grease’ or ‘Xanadu’. I became a huge Olivia fan first based on her music (and later her movies) then the song ‘Twist Of… Read more »
Thank you Memoryboy I know you will love this song. Check out the video 🙂
Wow! Thank you! So delighted you posted that. I am watching now….
Thank you Paul, that was fantastic. I now have a new favorite by Olivia. I always loved her soft and sultry number’s. Kinda reminds me ‘Magic’ and ‘Tied Up’, love those ones too. I hope it’s ok to post a video here, if not let me know. Here is ‘Magic’, another favorite that reminds me of this fantastic new favorite ‘Soul Kiss’.

As always Paul, thanks for those great remasters. It does sound a bit better indeed than your 2012 remaster. It is subtle but its there. A bit more detail and “presence” mostly, a bit more analog… Great work Monsieur! Now, is it just me or the scans on your 2012 release are more natural than this one though? The reds seem to be a tad too hot. Yesterdays scans of Toughen Up are quite better and cleaner than the ones from 2012 but this Soul Kiss release seem perhaps less successful here. Or maybe I am just nitpicking because the… Read more »
Hi Siman, thank you for your input. I did adjust the colors a tad bit so I may have overdone the contrast. I wasn’t planning on doing a full ONJ week just the singles from Soul Kiss. Rest assured I do plan to remaster some of the others including “Twist Of Fate/Livin’ In Desperate Times”. 🙂
Thank you so much Paul to re-rip my favourite ONJ single. I love this song since the fist time I heard it on radio back in 1985. It has something special. You are right, the whole album “Soul kiss” is pure pop bliss and it’s also my favourite album.
You’re welcome, Daniel 🙂
You make me happy Paul! This re-rip is awesome, pure Paulity. No one’s gonna get this better than you. A big thank you!
Thank you, Stefano. I thought it necessary to re-rip this one after yesterdays post 🙂
You really are an Angel for re-mastering this one Paul. I loved all these singles during the 1980’s and it’s fantastic because you are behind their resurrection. Such a sexy record and I can’t wait to make an ONJ compilation utilizing your beauteous rips!! You have this knack for really bringing out nuances I’ve never noticed before on a record. You are quite the artist yourself with these skills you’ve developed over the years. Labels should really pay attention to you and your gifts.
Hands down, you are amazing!!
Jeff
Thank you so much, Jeff. Loved this record upon its release the entire album is pure pop bliss 🙂
