Burning The Ground Exclusivev1985
“Universal Radio” is a song by German singer Nina Hagen from her third studio album Nina Hagen in Ekstasy (1985). It was released as the lead single from the album in January 1985 by Columbia Records. Written by Ron Dumas and produced by Adam Kidron, “Universal Radio” became successful in the US charts, peaking at number 39 on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs. It was premiered by Rodney Bingenheimer on the radio station KROQ Los Angelas. “Universelles Radio”, the German version of the song was also released.
The music video for the song featured footage of her performance at the Rock in Rio festival from January 13, 1985.
Hagen worked with Ron Dumas, who had previously recorded the song in 1983 with his band Ron Dumas Group. She later described the song as not being musically very interesting and that she originally wanted to do her vocals differently, but was directed by the recording company to make the record more “commercial”.
**Please note the noise at the start of the Album version is supposed to be there.

Hey Paul.
OMG thank you for this!
My brother and I used to go crazy when they played the video for this. Such a brilliant track. Love Nina soooo much.
Cheers, John
What a pleasant surprise this single is having heard this for the first time. I love the quirky colourful artwork too.
Cheers Paul!
Thx Paul for this fantastic song. More Nina stuff please.New York, New York is also a fantastic one. I still remember a concert in 1989 in Frankfurt / Music Hall. She was so freakin’ awesome.

I remember seeing the video for this song for the first time on U68 in Brooklyn as a kid and thinking OMG this is crazy and I love it! Thanks Paul!
Aw, geez. I just did my own rips of an eBay’ed copy of this, about a month ago. Oh well – nuking mine in favor of your always superior vinyl copies, recording, and clean-up. Thank you!
❤️❤️❤️ Thank you so much!
thank you Paul, this is a great song…Sorry to disturb you, do have Kajagoog hang on now…could you post it… thanks…
Jeff said it best. This is one of the most fantastic, quirky and danceable 12″-inch singles ever. This extended 12-inch version is in my top 50 favorite dance tracks ever – and in the top 20 little-known tracks that most people on the dancefloor are surprised and delighted to dance to when I spin it up. Great stuff, Paul! Thanks!
You’re very welcome, dugn 🙂
Wow Paul!!! This is a big time favorite of mine!!! Love that now I finally have the dub version. Love anything containing edits by the Latin Rascals. They really brought their thing to so many records of different genres. Love these 80’s mixes!! Nina Hagen is such a wild and crazy songstress. Would have loved it if she got to perform this song her way!! Thanks so much Paul for ravishing on us the best records!!
Jeff
It’s always my pleasure, Jeff. I love how excited you get when one of your favorites pops up. Enjoy! 🙂
You had me at The Latin Rascals. 🙂
