No sight of Rick Astley! I thought he’d pop up on this song. LOL
Thank you Paul for doing this Musical Youth week. Makes me feel young again. LOL! This is my next favourite single by them, after Pass The Dutchie. I’m quite surprised that there are two different mixes for this single on each side of the Atlantic. So glad to be able to hear the US one now. And when I first read about the chart debut of a song Never Gonna Give You Up by newcomer Rick Astley, I had wondered if it is a cover of this song. Of course found out it wasn’t later but also brilliant. There is… Read more »
I enjoy this track too Ric. I was a bit disappointed in the remix though. I found it a bit boring and drawn out. Or maybe it was because I spent nearly 8 hours working on it today lol. This single was the most challenging of all of them so far. Which is strange considering this record was still sealed until today. Enjoy!
Wow, a mint copy! That’s a real treat for us!
But I know where you’re coming from regarding it being a bit boring.
I think there should be a cut at the 6:18 mark to make it into two separate tracks, an extended and sort of a dub vocal.
I wonder how the UK 12” remix sounds like though…
I totally agree with you Ric. When I first listened to it I thought it was a mistake and that it was supposed to be two tracks however the record is not pressed that way. I don’t have the UK version so I am not sure what it sounds like. Guess i’ll have to do some Googleing 🙂
I’ll admit, I’ve had the same “geez, how much longer is this going to go on?” reaction to more than a few 12″ mixes at times…
I think a big part of it is that these weren’t really meant to be the kind of thing you just sit down and listen to. They’re meant to be played at discos and dance parties, and you don’t notice the repetition or length quite so much in a social environment where everyone around you is talking and dancing with flashing lights going off all around the place. 🙂
Very true, Doctor!
And I think the reggae 12″s are often guilty of dragging them on.
Many of UB40 so-called remixes are like that, the first half is all great and brilliant, and then the next half is just a snooze-fest dub with effects and no vocals.
YES!!
thanks , once again Paul for this one!
it’s the first time i’ll hear the “new mix” (only for the US market.)
In Europe we had a different and shorter 12″ version.
it was same cover.
You’re welcome Eric!
Thank You Paul!
Enjoy! Sasomom
Hey Paul, you know I’m usually in absolute awe of your cover scans, but I had a go at cleaning up this one a little myself, to match the cleanliness of the previous two (and of the back sleeve). Hope you don’t mind! x (The blue may be slightly off, I don’t have the sleeve to colour match)

Thanks for the collection!
You’re welcome drake 🙂
Thanks so much!!! Never heard Mirror Mirror before.
I was gonna post a link to their Unsung documentary, but it got pulled just this afternoon from YouTube! 🙁 It’s very good, wasn’t ever shown in the UK and have been looking for a good copy for ages.
So instead here’s a documentary from back in the day about them going to visit their roots in Jamaica.

You’re welcome thanks for the documentary.
