Very nice! I am a big fan of both Praga Khan and Lords of Acid, so this is much appreciated. Praga Khan has put out a couple of compilations of his early works released under various names, but there are so many more records he’s done that did not make the cut. I do agree with Martika, he really must have been working non-stop. Looking forward to the current Lords of Acid shows, with Praga Khan opening as well as reuniting with Olivier Adams and performing some of the Mortal Kombat songs they released as The Immortals. Thanks for the… Read more »
I remember watching the trial (first one I remember watching) and Oliver North absolutely destroying the prosecution. Folks loved Reagan (still do) and even the musicians hating him made him even more popular. Unfortunately, some great anti-war songs just fell flat due it (Industry – State of the Nation, for example). Song talks about “he forgot”, but didn’t some president (still in office) recently get off of being rightfully prosecuted because they thought him too senile to remember taking classified documents and stashing them in his garage (and elsewhere)? Iran contra was kinda cool in design, keeping Iran fighting to… Read more »
In fairness the name of the band is one that ensured lack of succe$$ 🙂 Thanks Paul!
Amazing title … lol… Praga Khan had to be the busiest music producer of the 80s and early 90s (besides Trevor Horn maybe). He and Jade 4 U (both in Lords Of Acid) are credited on at least half the NEW BEAT records back in the day under various pseudonyms. It would be interesting if some record label released all their hundreds of 12″ singles into one compilation. I liked their 80s New Beat releases better than Praga Khan’s 90s Techno stuff. THANK YOU for sharing another rare 80s vinyl!!!!
You’re welcome, Martika
I wanted to chime in again about this cool song. Just yesterday I was thinking about the 1980’s and the many songs with a political stance. I even had my Amazon Echo device play the great Arthur Baker sonic sample fest, “See the Light / Feel the Heat” by Airforce One because, this 80’s decade had wonderful music that challenged ideas and made political statements. Today, we don’t get too much of this, but today’s post made me think of all those 80’s songs that had something to say and kept us dancing as well. Ah, the politics of dancing!… Read more »
I agree with you, Jeff! Many global hit singles did not get released/promoted in the US in the 80s because of political statements, but that didn’t stop the artists from standing up for what’s right! I can’t imagine artists today collaborating on projects like LIVE AID, BAND AID, etc. without at least turning into a self-promoting extravaganza.
Well said, Martika.
I appreciate you so much, Martika. You bring astute and passionate commentary to the Burning The Ground community, plus, your tastes in music are phenomenal. I can imagine that your DJ skills are terrific as well!! You are a joy 😊
Jeff
The Musical Reporters had extraordinarily prescience almost exactly 10 years to the day when reports a former President and his intern hit and captivated the world, amazing!
Well, didn’t know that at all. But why does it remind me a lot of FGTH’s “Relax”??? Don’t you just love the title? (LOL!) Can’t help thinking of Bill Clinton, too… 🙂 Many thanks for the post 🙂
It reminded me of Falco. This was way before Bill though.
Precisely! I would say it is kind of “prophetic”? 🙂
Thank you! Love new beat! 🙂
You’re welcome 🙂
I love this genre too!
Jeff
Although I do not know this song, Praga Khan’s Free Your Body (Injected With A Poison: ’92 MNO Remix) was so kick-ass back in the day! The first 60 seconds of that mix was such a build up!!
Interesting that Praga Khan is credited. Most widely known for techno rave music and a member of Lords Of Acid / Digital Orgasm!
Not a fan of Techno so I wasn’t familiar with his name and had no idea he was in Lords Of Acid. 🙂
Thanks to you, Paul, I know this selection from an earlier Hot Tracks issue! This song is great and so appropriate for today’s historic criminal trial for a former president. Talk about timely!! Paul, thank you for a very cool song!!
Jeff
Oh is that today 🙂 I first heard this record on Hot Tracks Series 6 Issue 9 which I posted for Halloween a few years ago I really liked it 🙂
