Mike + The Mechanics – All I Need Is A Miracle (US 12″ Promo)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1985

“All I Need Is a Miracle” is a pop rock song performed by Mike + The Mechanics. Written by guitarist Mike Rutherford and producer Christopher Neil, it was first included on their 1985 self-titled debut album, and later released as a single, where it reached number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1986.

“All I Need Is a Miracle” was the second single released by Mike + The Mechanics, following “Silent Running (On Dangerous Ground)”, which also reached the top ten. “All I Need Is a Miracle” featured lead vocals by former Sad Café vocalist Paul Young. It is the only US Top 10 hit from the band to feature Young on lead vocals; the band’s third (and as of 2010, last) Top 10 hit was 1989’s “The Living Years”, which featured Paul Carrack on lead vocals.

In 1996, a new version of the song, titled “All I Need Is a Miracle ’96”, was included on their greatest hits package Hits.

This double A Side US Promotional 12″ includes the same track on both sides.

Hey Paul. There are usually two numbers on every Atlantic release, however only one is a catalog number. The other is,from what I was told,is the master number – presumably, the master tape number.

Thank you for ripping this song, Paul. I’m sure I’m not the only one that has this song attached to someone important in their life, but it is a special song for me and I’m happy you posted it 🙂

Mike was so smart to enlist two of Brit’s best blue-eyed soul vocalists for his supergroup.
Even though they only have three Top 10s in the USA, they have released many perfect pop tunes all the way through the 90s. Most were hits in the UK.
The third single from this debut album is one of my favourites. Unfortunately, there isn’t any 12″ remix for Taken In.

“Taken In” is another great, underrated song that deserved a much higher position than it achieved. At least it made the Top 10 on the Adult Contemporary chart.

Though the 7:16 extended version of “Taken in” I had it was original, but now that you mention there’s no remix and digging in discogs, it seems that is just a bootleg or home-made remix/edit. Thanks once again DjPaulT for this promo jewel.
