BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1989

Billy Ocean was one of the first Caribbean singers, alongside Grace Jones, to be embraced by MTV, resulting in a string of Top Ten hits during the mid-1980’s. In 1989 Jive Records released Billy Ocean’s Greatest Hits. The album featured a new track produced by Robert John “Mutt” Lange “I Sleep Much Better (in Someone Else’s Bed)” which featured a rap by The Fresh Prince (Will Smith) and Mimi. “I Sleep Much Better (in Someone Else’s Bed)” peaked at #60 on the US R&B chart and would be on of Ocean’s last charting singles.

For me as well, never knew this was a single. Only knew about License To Chill. Despite not being a hit, Billy still had a good chart run for the second half of the 80s.

Excellent job on this one, Paul! I had no idea this song was even released as a single. If I’m not mistaken, “License To Chill” was also a new song for the Greatest Hits album and was a Top 40 single. I had that album until 2004 when Billy’s “Ultimate Collection” came out. I remember being upset at “Greatest Hits” because it didn’t have one of his biggest hits, “Love Is Forever” on it!
