Thanks for this Paul!
Wow! My first day back in front of a computer after eye surgery… and the first thing I see is another ultra-rare John Luongo Remix vinyl courtesy of the one and only DJ Paul! THANK YOU!!!
Like everyone else, I’m surprised this band wasn’t bigger. They were so brilliantly fluffy and positive! I imagine it didn’t meet the Zeitgeist of the early 80s Post-Punk (Goth) mood! I don’t think I’ve ever seen any remixes by MWH anywhere besides Safety Dance and Pop Goes The World! Thank you for always sharing rare treasures in meticulous quality!
Dear Martika,
I’m thrilled you are back. I was so worried that something may have happened. So happy you’re back! I missed you so very much! I’m quite sure this community missed you as well. We love you!
Please feel better and take extra good care of yourself!!
Hug!
Jeff
Thank you for the comment. I hope you are on the mend, Martika. I know firsthand all about eye surgery had to have the retinas in both eyes re-attached in 2007 luckily I can still see what I am doing. I missed seeing your comments and have to admit was a bit worried. Sending lots of Love and Light. 🙂
Both eyes?! YIKES! One of my friends had that happen to one eye and is still struggling! Hope things went better for you!
You guys are too kind! All is well, but I was forbidden from looking at electronics (and the eclipse… lol) after the surgery. I certainly missed the positive vibes of this blog as well as the wonderful sonic treats!
By the way, funny that the first thing I saw on my computer was the EYE from your banner … lol
I thought their first label Backstreet/MCA was bad enough in promoting an artist they affectionately called Men Without Hits considering they gave them a monster hit. Mercury did OK with “Pop Goes The World” (US #20), which technically makes MWH a “two-hit wonder”. The album was rare to see in stores, and after having another hit, this follow-up should have done something for these talented musicians. It’s a shame the band wasn’t taken more seriously by their American labels.
It almost seems as if they were treated like a gimmick and not taken seriously.
I don’t remember this single, but it’s always a thrill to see John Luongo on remix credits.
Thanks Paul 🙂
I agree, Marco. John Luongo is one of those underrated remixers.
Paul,
Thank you very much for this great 12″ single.
This comes from their best album IMO where instrumentations, lyrics are more varied than on any other MWH release.
even Ivan’s voice is much more relaxed.
It’s a shame this was not a worldwite success for Men Without Hats, it would have deserved it.
You’re welcome, arnaud 🙂
Wow! You just made my day! Several of us suggested this back in 2019 when you posted the Pop Goes The World 12″ — it’s been a long wait, but it was worth it. Thanks so much, you’re the best!
You’re welcome. I apologize it took so long. Enjoy 🙂
No apologies necessary. One of the joys of visiting various music blogs is wondering what might show up that day. I confess, though, that in the back of my mind I’m always hoping for something in particular. When I opened your blog this morning (always first on my list) I actually gasped “No way!” when it loaded. Brilliant. Now I just have to come up with a new wish list target. Great job on the mastering by the way, this one is super crisp and dynamic. Thanks again for making my day!
Thank you Paul!! Very appropriate for today of course. Man the Doroschuk brothers had such great pop sensibilities! Criminally underrated and relegated to history as one-hit wonders. Makes me think of Boy Meets Girl. Their hits seem so effortless, yet they know how to saturate every song with melody and urgency. Boy were we spoiled! Interestingly enough, their fourth album contains the track, 21st Century Safety Dance. It was a warning that all music would sound like it. A prescient, eerie and correct prediction!
I agree with you Retro Hound never understood why this band never re caught on. The same goes for Boy Meets Girl. I hope you had a great eclipse day if you were lucky enough to be on the path. 🙂
these is really cool
Thank you 🙂
Perfect song to celebrate the Eclipse!!! Paul, this is really exciting too because of the ones who are behind this project, like Zeus B. Held and John Luongo on remix duties. I have to say (AGAIN) in how much I admire you for your eclectic tastes in music, especially in New Wave and Synth-Pop amongst other genres. And with you Paul, it’s not your typical 80’s music. So much is on CD and digital download already, so I praise you for expanding on the 1980’s musical 12-inch spectrum. Sure, I love my favorites, but you Paul stand out amongst others… Read more »
Thanks so much, Jeff 🙂
You said it Jeff!
Ooh, I love me some Men Without Hats!
Thank you 🙂
You’re welcome 🙂
