BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1985
“Aussie Aussie Aussie, Oi Oi Oi”
Originally posted February 24, 2011
“Everything I Need” was a single released in 1985 by the Australian group Men at Work. The song was written by Men at Work singer/guitarist Colin Hay and the recording was produced by Hay with keyboardist Greg Ham. The song appeared on the group’s album Two Hearts.
The tune has a bouncy, midtempo pop/rock feel, and is marked by a loud, thwacking drum rhythm and a prominent slide guitar solo.
“Everything I Need” was not a major hit. It peaked at #47 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was in fact to be the last Men at Work single to make the U.S. charts.

Off topic: Yesterday I couldn’t reach this page. Got a captcha from incapsula which didn’t work on my browser. Today with nothing changed on my side (except maybe the IP) this site works without stupid incapsula. Don’t know if I’m the only one who hd troubles yesterday but I think Paul might want to know. And another off topic: Do you have Madame X 12″ single Just that type of girl with the extended remix: https://www.discogs.com/Madame-X-Just-That-Type-Of-Girl-Extended-Remix/release/145634 ? And Jody Watley with Still A Thrill would be nice to hear again. Many thanks for all the music you put on here,… Read more »
Glad to see you are back up. Happy 4th!
Tambien es uno de mis favoritos, Men At Work, por siempre, gracias amigo DjPaulT, por subirlo.
A very nice one … thanks
Paul…
This is kind of a follow up to your recent posting on Facebook.
You post tons of stuff… for which I’m most appreciative.
Some of it is stuff I’ve heard of. Some of it is stuff I’ve NEVER heard of. But this one falls into the broad chasm between the two. I definitely know about Men at Work… but NOT this particular single. As memory serves, they kind of fizzled out (at least in the States) after “Cargo.”
Downloading as I type, so haven’t listened to this yet, but should be interesting. Thanx!
Great band, I absolutely loved their first two albums, Business As Usual and Cargo. Colin James Hay has (had?) such a great voice. Loved and have a copy of his solo 12inch Hold Me as well.
Men At Work were a great live band as well. I have a dvd of a live concert recording on German television back in 82 or 83.
I have the “Hold Me” 12″ too Song_and_Dance. Great record 🙂
Men at Work was my second concert and I was SO EXCITED when this single came out. I was certain that they would be my favorite band ever. Bronski Beat changed that, but I still love this track.
Thank you!
Both great bands but I can see how Bronski won the battle 🙂
Thanks Paul.
You’re welcome Omar 🙂
The Wizard of Ah’s (DjPaulT) has been celebrating the Land of Oz all week long!! Paul, it has been a magical week. I can’t thank you enough for all these great singles, including a new transfer to boot! Many, many thanks for all these fabulous tracks, especially Models and Olivia’s. I’m looking forward to checking this new re-rip out as you are constantly developing your skills as a vinyl technician. Karen and I hope you have a great weekend leading up to Independence Day Paul. We’ll be driving a lot this weekend so I’ve made some Juke Box MP3 CDs… Read more »
Take care Jeff. Hope you and Karen have a safe weekend 🙂
