BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1984
“Borderline” is a song recorded by American singer Madonna for her eponymous debut album Madonna (1983). It was released on February 15, 1984, by Sire Records as the album’s fifth single. Written and composed by its producer Reggie Lucas.
In the United States, “Borderline” became Madonna’s first top-ten hit on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number ten in June 1984. In the United Kingdom, it peaked at number two after it was re-released as a single in 1986. Elsewhere, the song reached the top 10 or 20 in numerous European nations, while topping the singles chart of Ireland.
In the United States, Sire Records released “Borderline” and “Lucky Star” as a 12″ single with remixes by Madonna’s then-boyfriend John “Jellybean” Benitez.
“Lucky Star” had been previously released as the fourth single from Madonna’s debut album “Lucky Star” peaking at number four on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming the first single in her record-breaking string of 16 consecutive top-five hits. It also topped the Dance Club Songs chart with “Holiday”. Internationally, “Lucky Star” reached the top ten in Canada and the top twenty in Ireland and the United Kingdom.

Thank you for the Madonna, PaulT.
Borderline, great song indeed !!
I may be wrong but I remember “Lucky Star” in the movie The Last Starfighter. It was at beginning. It starts playing on the radio then plays in the background. I remember because I watched the movie over and over one summer and the song title fit with the movie. When I got the Blu-Ray of The Last Starfighter I was disappointed to find they had replaced the song (as often happens when original music rights do not cover home video).
A Fantastic mix of a Fantastic song from a Fantastic debut album by a Fantastic artist…..My favorite MADONNA album…..FANTASTIC..
What a double bill! The soundscape & stereo mix is is my heartbeat today. Also – I have never seen that back cover pic before! And now I will never unsee it. And I’m super fine with it 🙂 Thanks, Paul!
One of my top 5 Madonna singles. Jellybean did a great job on this mix. I love the artwork too.
Cheers Paul 🙂
Cheers Marco 🙂
Oh this post just pushed me over the borderline. Thank you Dj PaulT. Thank you so much.
You’re welcome, Chad 🙂
First time visitor. Feel like I might be in twelve inch heaven… 💋💋💋
We are happy to have you here in twelve inch heaven 🙂
Borderline is my favourite song on Madonna’s debut album and the Jellybean mix is awesome as always. Thank you Paul and I’m glad you did not post Whitney’s “Love will save the day” because 4 years ago love did not save the day. Hopefully there will be good news tomorrow.
You’re welcome, Daniel. I am praying all goes well 🙂
awesome tune
Thank You 🙂
Thanks Paul – early days Madonna was so cool.
You’re welcome, Jermajesty 🙂
Thanks, Paul! I think the Borderline New Mix is the same as the “US Remix”.
Both of these songs are fantastic but Borderline just has something to it that brings back super fond memories. I’m whisked right back to the early 80s in my house listening to this song. It’s probably still one of the rare songs that I can hear today in its entirety.
Thanks for the great memories!
Yes the US Mix is the same mix. Both tracks instantly put you in a time machine back to 1984 great memories 🙂
Many thanks Paul! I’m a bit taken back by the fact that you hadn’t covered this already?! Just kidding. Always a bonus when it’s a Madge Monday! 🙂
You’re welcome, Rob love seeing you comment here 🙂
I’ll try to be a bit more vigilant then, regarding the posting of comments here! 🙂
Thank you! These early Madonna singles are still her best, IMO.
You’re welcome, Dean 🙂
Many fond memories of these two songs, Paul. Haven’t heard these mixes in years so I’m very pleased you reposted them. Your work is sonic alchemy. Thanks Paul!!!!
