Burning The Ground Exclusive 1983
“Only for Love” is the debut solo single by former Kajagoogoo singer Limahl, following being fired from the group by his bandmates in 1983. Limahl’s 1984 debut solo album, Don’t Suppose, included the song. The song became his first UK top 20 hit, peaking at No. 16 on the UK Singles Chart. It remains his second most popular single in the UK as a solo act (the first being “The Neverending Story”).
Limahl performed the song with Beth Anderson on the TV show American Bandstand on March 9, 1985.
The song also played a part in the singer meeting producer Giorgio Moroder, while he was performing the song at a rock festival in Tokyo the following year. Moroder would help Limahl reach greater international success later in his career.
+There were two music videos shot for the song one for the USA market and another for the international market.
++The remix on the A-side “12” Mix When She Moves In Close” did not appear on the 2014 re-issue of the album “Don’t Suppose”. This mix is vinyl-only. The single version is also exclusive to vinyl.

This is a real ear worm! I love The Neverending Story single (and movie) which completely overshadowed the other singles from Limahl… at least here in the States. This one should have been a bigger hit, but I’m glad to see at least it charted. And thanks for posting the two videos. He looks especially slick in the American version. Thank you Paul!!
You’re welcome, Retro Hound 🙂
I love it when you share a vinyl-exclusive remix that the record label was too lazy to include on a deluxe edition! In any case, your quality tends to be better, even if they remember to include it! THANK YOU for another amazing and rare vinyl transfer!
You’re welcome, Martika. I also forgot to mention in my write-up that the shorter single version is exclusive to vinyl.
Awesome! That’s twice as amazing then! Thank you for pointing that out!
What a great song this is, Paul!! A great synth-pop confection. I can’t believe this missed out on becoming a bigger hit. I liked both of the music videos you shared; however, the official clip had the edge for me. The other was cute and fun though.
Limahl had that great look back then. I really like him and his music! Thank you, Paul!!
Jeff
You’re welcome, Jeff. I never understood why Limahl never really took off.
Even the rest of Kajagoo had a lot of potential! But they should have never fired Limahl at the height of popularity! Nick Rhodes should have slapped them all and told them get their act together … instead of publicly humiliating each other.
Thank you Paul for this one!
You’re welcome.
