I remember taking my young-teen daughter to some music store I believe in Illinois when Leif was about 17 or 18. He was the heart-throb of the ALL the young teen girls. I remember someone saying that Leif was related to someone in the Huey Lewis and the News group. Can you verify that?
My daughter, who is now 53, and I are having an ongoing friendly-feud. You could put an end the feud, one way or the other! Hope you reply!
I really like your site. Very informative on just about anyone in the music business.

I’d like to second what Dirk said, along with thanking DJ Paul for another fantastic and meticulous upload. Like millions of others, I had a huge crush on Leif in the late 70s, and still vividly remember jumping up and down with joy as a 9 year-old at discovering his “Feel the Need” LP as a gift from my parents under the Christmas tree in 1979. As my musical interests evolved in the 80s I stopped following his career, and was saddened many years later to learn of his addiction – but even more, the extent to which he and… Read more »

Thanks for this Disco treat, Paul!
I remember him being the teen idol alongside David Cassidy, Shaun Cassidy and Donny Osmond in the 70s…
Such a fun disco song…Used to play this with another “I Was Made For” disco song…can you guess which one?

Leif did not invent the abuse of drugs just stumbled on it. Not. Ever since the invention of amphetamins it has been abused. Only it wasn’t smeared all over the media. Not only jazzmucisians, later rock, pop and gospel and the rest. But also opera singers, actors, doctors, jetsetters – everybody connected to somebody had the availability. And a lot of people got hooked. Cocaine was even more popular, but speed was ‘tested’ for all sorts of illnesses and fatigues and legally prescribed under various names.. A lot of money to be made by having your artist dependant and insecure…… Read more »

I always thought this was a fun song (as was its sort-of twin, “Kiss in the Dark” by Pink Lady, which has all the same people involved around the same time period. Not really the same song, but close.)

Nice post this one Paul !

I’ve got the picture disc version, only the sound quality is so much lower than a normal vinyl version.

I will enjoy this massive disco classic in 24 bit for sure. Hope my neighbours will do the same ;-

This is one I won’t be downloading, gosh were we really that bad in the 70s (dress sense)?

And yes picture discs weren’t that good quality wise, but still better than today’s brick-walling of CDs…

As always Paul, keep them coming..

YES! Super disco cheeze! I’d forgotten he was in The Outsiders, great movie. Now that I think of it, he may have been Diane Lane’s boyfriend.

How delightful is this song!!! I was obsessed with it while I was growing up; never heard the full dance version so this is an added bonus. You’re right about Leif being a precursor to the Biebs. He, Justin that is, better be careful. It’s sad, but people can change.

Thanks for ending the week on such a sentimental and nostalgic note for me Paul. You bring the smiles for sure!!!

Enjoy your weekend my friend!!!

Jeff

Great Disco Friday post. This is a classic disco tune. Very nice to have the instrumental version too.
I last saw him on TV: didn’t reckognise him at all! I understand he has been addicted to a lot of everything for a long time. Here in Europe we lost sight of him after his singing career, so I was kinda shocked seeing him on this TV show in a rather poor state.

Lol, Had never heard of this guy til last week when he popped up on a repeated episode of Top of the Pops 1979.

Have you seen him now? Jesus.

BTw Paul, bring Disco Friday, have you heard of Gepy & Gepy, an italian disco act from the 70s but (somewhat unusally for Disco I find) with a male singer. Check out his album covers on Google!! 😀
