BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1981
“Chequered Love” is the second single by British singer Kim Wilde. The song was released in the spring of 1981 to follow Wilde’s successful debut “Kids in America”. As with that single, writing credits were given to Wilde’s father and brother Marty and Ricky Wilde, with the latter also being given production credits. The 12″ version is no longer in length than the 7″, however, better sound quality is achieved by the grooves not being as compressed – a common practice for “marketing” during the 1980s. The song later appeared on Wilde’s self-titled debut album.
“Chequered Love” became another hit for Wilde, reaching the number four on the UK Singles Chart, number one in South Africa (succeeding “Kids in America”), and peaking inside the top 10 all around the world except North America. It has sold 245,000 copies in France, was certified gold in the UK, and has sold over a million copies worldwide.

Thanks again, Paul 🙂
Thanks for this! Any chance we get a re-up of Kids in America–the two go together so well!
Thanks Paul, as always a great selection. I remember those 12″-singles which explained on the cover why the sound quality is much better than on the 7″ (the German edition of Blondie’s “Call Me” had such text).
There’s a typo in the headline. It should be “Kim” instead of “Kin”.
Thanks for letting me know about the typo Michael. Enjoy! 🙂
I honestly just can’t get enough of Chequered Love.
Thank you Paul.
You’re welcome, Jermajesty 🙂
Kimmie! “Ohh ah oh, oh ah oh I can’t let go…” The release of Kids In America was such an influence on my young life. Then she followed it up with this hit, and I was hooked. Thanks for the flashback to this great hit from a great time. Fantastic memories! Thanks!
You’re welcome, dugh 🙂
What a fabulous record!! Paul, thanks a million for this one. At the time “Kids In America” was getting all the buzz in the US (and rightfully so!) this was the record I adored. A college friend had the album and played it on a killer sound system and I was blown away. Such energy and dazzle. I love this. I can’t wait to hear your rip too! It’s going to make me “flashback” to the time I first heard it glorious stereophonic sound!! You’re the absolute best for bringing this back into consciousness Paul!!
Swooning!
Jeff
Thank you, Jeff 🙂
Thanks Paul.
You’re welcome Omar 🙂
