BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1985
Originally posted: October 10, 2011
“Walking on Sunshine” is a song written by Kimberley Rew for Katrina and the Waves 1983 eponymous debut full-length album. The re-recorded version was at first released on the band’s 1985 self-titled album as the album’s second single and reached No. 4 in Australia, No. 9 in the United States, and No. 8 in the United Kingdom. It was the Waves’ first US top 40 hit, and their biggest success in the United Kingdom until “Love Shine a Light” (1997). Originally conceived of as a ballad, Katrina decided to belt the song out as a more upbeat song.

Yeah, yesterday was just chock-full of great news. Once again, over 95% of the voters refused to consider any option other than Team Tweedledee vs. Team Tweedledum. 😛
But then, as a Libertarian-leaning Pragmatist, I’m used to biennial disappointment. 😀
(There was supposed to be a smiley-face at the end of that, but the board seems to have eaten it for some reason…?)
Ahhhh yes! My favorite song from senior year of high school, and one of my overall favorite songs ever.
And, there’s enough good news from yesterday to make me want to walk on sunshine today. Thanks for this.
Thank you so much Paul – this song brings back so many happy memories from my childhood. Whenever I am getting home late at night I play the “American Psycho” soundtrack as we go down the FDR. This song always makes me smile!
Also – reminds me of “Looking”, when Doris, Dom & Patrick go to the small town gay bar in Modesto, and have a dance party to this song.
Thanks Paul. This is the perfect post for today. A real feel-good track to celebrate the good news. We can see some light at the end of the tunnel.
Perfect choice for today! Thanks!
This song still packs a punch and really makes one “feel good!” Paul, thanks for re-visiting old posts because the new upgrades are delectable. As Fred noted, I do wish there was a dub or some breaks. I wish this song ended cold too. But I’m thrilled that you have sprinkled your magick on it. You do such stellar work and I revel in it all. I could never repay all the joy you’ve bestowed on me over the years. I drool over your body of work. Like I’ve stated in the past, Burning The Ground is an aural art… Read more »
You’re welcome, Jeff. After the happier events of last night, I just had to pull out this feel-good track and revisit it 🙂
Thanks, Paul! Very nice rip!! I wish they had released a dub or instrumental with this back in the day. I always felt this mix needed a break or 2. They really could have done some simple things with the horns and bassline and other instruments to make the breaks.
Thanks again!
I agree that they could have been a little more creative with the remix. But I guess we are lucky that one exists at all 🙂
thanks Paul.
You’re welcome Omar 🙂
