“Love Me Like A Rocket” is a 1983 single by Kate Garner a member of new wave band Haysi Fantayzee. When they split, she briefly embarked on a solo career. Produced by Torch Song which included William Orbit “Love Me Like A Rocket” was the only single Garner released. The single failed to chart. She achieved greater fame as a celebrity photographer, with her first major attention garnered from the album cover of Sinéad O’Connor’s “The Lion And The Cobra”.
This single was William Orbit’s first production job.

Haysi Fantayzee were always facinating to watch on Top Of The Pops, John Wayne is Big Leggy being my favourite and Shiny Shiny. I didn’t really know much about Kate Garner’s solo singing career, so thanks Paul for uploading this rare gem. Kate now makes a great living as a famous fashion photographer and artist. Fantastic record. I do love me some Haysi Fantayzee! Kate attempted a solo comeback about 10 years or so ago, with a Kickstarter-type campaign. She recorded two demos, “Lucifer” and “Sideways Of Red”, to give an example of what her new record might sound like and to attract donations. Both songs were on YouTube last time I checked. Very quirky and much in the style of what I think Haysi Fantayzee might sound like today.

Funny that Haysi featured on UK TV programme at the start of this month on ‘Top of the pops: The story of 1983’. Jeremy Healy appeared but Kate didn’t. I was thinking would have loved to see her talking and what she looked like now. I know about Jeremy as we’re Facebook friends. Loved ‘Shiny shiny’ and never ever knew of any solo career. Or when / why the band split. Many thanks. Interesting that it’s Orbit’s first production work too!
