Kate Bush – Cloudbusting (Meteorological Mix) (US 12″)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1986

A. Front

REQUEST

“Cloudbusting” is a song that was written, produced and performed by the British singer Kate Bush. It was the second single released from her no.1 1985 album Hounds of Love. “Cloudbusting” peaked at no.20 in the UK Singles Chart.

The 12″ version of “Cloudbusting” was a special remix called “The Organon Re-Mix” in which the verses were downplayed and the main focus was the development of the song’s chorus. In the USA, this mix was issued as “The Meterological Mix”, a title used in the UK for 12″ version of Bush’s later single “The Big Sky”.

Thanks for shedding light on the names of the mix. I noticed the cd promo calls it the Meteorological Mix while in This Woman’s Work Anthology we see the same version called Oreganon Re-Mix, both by Brian Tench.

I noticed this one only yesterday. I thought it was the regular 12 inch mix but it truly is a unique one. Unfortunately the cd single is around 50 euro’s or more nowadays. Thanks a lot!

Love this version – and my vinyl is so worn now, so thanks for the rip.

And another vote for the video mix as the definitive version. I think it’s burnt into my brain from so many viewings of The Whole Story VHS.

Thanks Paul. This is my favourite Kate Bush song. Now i will be looking for the Red Shoes single for the video mix.

Thank you Paul for this wonderful Kate!

I never realized until now that the US version was different from the UK. Interesting.

I always uncompress every thing with dBpoweramp Paul, but often with your releases It doesn’t work, doesn’t uncompress all the way. With this Kate release, Sat In Your Lap successfully uncompressed completely while the other 2 songs didn’t. Do you have any idea why?

Again, thank you and keep up the great work you always do.

Max, only the remix names are different, the remix itself not (identical).
I never encounter any problems unzipping Pauls files.

Hello again Paul, I am not talking about unzipping here but uncompressing. Everything unzip perfectly (Winrar). I have been using and ripping my cd collection with dBpoweramp for years and It always worked flawlessly and It is the best software out there for ripping, tagging and converting. When you rip or convert in FLAC with it, you choose your level of compression (0-8) but dBpoweramp is the only software that offer no compression whatsoever (Lossless uncompressed). So It is basically like a WAV file with the great tagging/embedding properties of FLAC. So, anything I get that is lossless I always… Read more »

Quite frankly with today computers and processors I don’t think It change a bit. We are splitting hair here… BUT… some audiophiles will argue that mp3 is the devil and that WAV is the only way to go… but I digress here… For my money, any level of compression is perfectly fine and, as I said earlier, I am just a tad OCD so I do It the best way possible, all things considered, and I don’t have to think about it afterwards. Which is why I love your site so much. You do It the right way too. 24/96… Read more »

Paul, you’ve at last posted Kate and accordingly, earned a special badge of honor from me. 🙂 Thank you!

I was lucky enough to see Kate Bush in concert last year and the show finale was “Cloudbusting.” It was a magical night and this song worked surprisingly well live. The full audience was on its feet and singing along. (And for anyone who’s keeping score re: mixes, it was basically the album version of the song that she performed live, so I suspect she counts the LP version of “Cloudbusting” as the canonical version.)

Thank you so much for this one, Paul! Love virtually all the stuff you post, but Kate Bush is one of my faves.

Thanks for all your hard work uploading these classics. 🙂

I agree with many here, perhaps one of her best releases (although Babooshka takes some beating), nice to get this on decent vinyl rip.

Thanks Paul 🙂

My all time favourite Kate single. I think the video mix is superior to this 12 inch remix, but I do like the long outro of the remix.
Well, I think that the video mix should have been the album version, the album version the single edit and this 12 inch version the remix. Now the album is also the single, the remix is the 12 inch and the outstanding video mix is nowhere to be found officially (except on a CD single in the 90’s).
Thanks for sharing Kate Bush!

I know, but I think EMI America made a mistake on the name of the remix, causing lots of confusion for many years. It’s called the Organon Remix.
The remix of ‘The Big Sky’ is called the Meterological Mix. End of discussion 🙂

Yes, you did mention that already, but even I was a bit with my head in the clouds, and re-read after this comment 🙂
Also, no need for cloudbusting in my part of Europe, please bring on the blue summer skies, crimsons sunsets and singing blackbirds (to keep the KB-theme going).

Mark my words: when Kate Bush finally gets to remaster the Hounds Of Love decently, the video mix will be disregarded once again. This extended version of the album version should have been the album version… Because it’s not, I think we never won’t see a remaster of it.

‘Never won’t see’ isn’t correct: I meant ‘never will see’.

Paul, thanks for this single. I sadly missed out on a lot of Kate Bush’s singles. At the time, I was only really purchasing CD5s and I couldn’t find much availability for them. I am reveling in this song. Perfect timing, as it is so dry out. We really need a good “cloudbust” to bring on the rain! You are such an Angel Paul with what you give us. Many, many thanks!

Jeff

We’re getting some pretty good rain down here in Texas as well, although some areas are still considered to be in drought conditions just because the reservoirs are well below their usual capacity. If this keeps up, though…
