BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1984
-DjPaulT Recommended 12″
“Baby Pain” was the third single released by short-lived English new wave duo Intaferon, consisting of Simon Fellowes and Simon Gillham. The duo was signed to Chrysalis Records and only released three singles before splitting.
Simon Fellowes, after releasing two further albums as Simon F and another using the moniker F Machine, is now an author. He has three published novels – Don’t Breathe the Air, and My Name is Ferdinand (Strata Books) and 10 Dead Mexicans.
Simon Gillham gained a BA and an MA in Philosophy and undertook a Ph.D. on Nietzsche, then embarked on a career as a Philosophy lecturer. In 2015, he formed the band ‘Used To’, releasing several singles.
The sleeve features an iconic photo of American actress and fashion model Edie Sedgwick. She is best known for being one of Andy Warhol’s superstars.

CAN YOU REPOST PLEASE? THIS BAND IS GREAT
Have to say, Paul, you’ve presented one here that I have simply never heard of and it’s great! Thanks for the introduction!
Any chance of uploading STEAMHAMMER SAM so we have the full Intaferon collection in high quality please?
The best theme of this band, without a doubt that this is a very collectible song.
Cheers
Hallelujah! THANK YOU! I discovered this song just a few years ago on my local Salt Lake City New Wave radio station. They still play fairly often. It’s a great song.
I have looked for years for a non-YouTube rip of this song with no luck, I had given up hope.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
What station is that? 103.1 say they don’t have it when I have called. I sent DjPaulT an email asking about this song and lo and behold a few weeks later here it is!
Re the other releases, I have the 7″ gate-fold as well as this 12″ and the title track is slightly different on each. The tempo on the 7″ is a bit faster. The B-sides are slightly different as well.
It is 103.1. That’s really weird. I don’t get to listen to it very often but I hear the song all the time. No idea what version is it.
I still have the UK 7″ Gatefold sleeve release. Can’t wait to hear “Baby Pain”(Again) which wasn’t included on that issue.
Cheers Paul 🙂
So the question is when do we get to hear the third single to complete the set??
Great choice Paul! This version is slightly different from the version Simon F would use on his debut release ‘Gun Shy’ which is absolutely fabulous if you have ever have heard it. I would highly recommend that, although it has never come out on CD. There is a superb cover of the Hoodoo Guru’s track ‘I Want You Back’ and the LP was backed by the great guitar work of Steve Stevens (Billy Idol fame)! Enough about that now…Thanks for this hard to find 12 inch mix! 🙂
These special recommended 12″ are my favourite posts. Only then I can be sure to find the unexpected. This is another great find for me. Never heard that song. I really like it. Even the flipside is interesting. Thanks a lot Paul for this “new” discovery.
I am so glad you liked this one Daniel I thought maybe you would 🙂
Their best song in my opinion. Great pick, thanks!
I agree with you Thomas 🙂
I love this song too.
I do know Intaferon, especially from their fantastic “Get Out Of London” song and I have heard the other 12-inch too, which the title escapes me right now, but I had no idea of a third release by them. I’m super-excited Paul. Your recommended twelves are really incredible so I’m jazzed to get home and hear this. Thanks for another cool record for me to get excited about!
Jeff
Really hoping that you like this one Jeff 🙂
Steamhammer Sam
Ian!! That’s it. Thanks so much.
Enjoy your day and have a fantastic weekend!
