Icehouse – Icehouse (UK 12″)

Burning The Ground Exclusive 1982

Spooky Season Spin

“Icehouse” is a song by the Australian rock band Flowers, later known as Icehouse. It was released as a single in Europe in 1982 by Chrysalis Records from the band’s first album, Icehouse after the band changed its name to Icehouse. In the United States, the song peaked at number 28 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart in 1981 even though the song was not released as a single in the U.S.

“Icehouse” was written by founding member Iva Davies when he lived at 18 Tryon Road, Lindfield in an old, cold flat of a two-storey mansion—across the street was a dishevelled house which had its lights on all night peopled by short-term residents. Davies only learned that it was a halfway house for psychiatric and drug rehab patients after he wrote the song. Russell Mulcahy, an expatriate Australian living in London, directed the music video for “Icehouse”.

What a nice synthpop track.

I only knew this band from the song “hey Little Girl” which had a lot of radio airplay in France around 1984.
It make me feel I should listen to the Icehouse albums to discover their 80’s music.

Excellent track. It’s worth noting that the international (non-Australian) release of the debut album was remixed for its Chrysalis release. This appears to be the album version of the international release which has been out of print for a very long time. The Australian mix has been reissued many times. Great find!

Another new discovery for me courtesy of you dear Paul. I am a fan of this band however this song was new to me. What a haunting song with a chilling video that definitely stays with one. Thank you, Paul, for this introduction. Another winner from you!!
