Howard Jones – Like To Get To Know You Well (UK 12″)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1984

“Like to Get to Know You Well” is a single by musician Howard Jones released in the second half of 1984, which was subsequently included on his twelve inch remix album The 12″ Album. The single climbed to number four on the UK Singles Chart. The sleeve carried the motto “Dedicated to the original spirit of the Olympic Games”. The extended version, subtitled “International Remix”, featured Jones singing in English, German and French.

The song was included as a bonus track on the singer’s second studio album, Dream Into Action.

“Like to Get to Know You Well” was featured in the 1985 movie Better Off Dead starring John Cusack.

Two different videos were made. The first featured Jones walking around the streets of London greeting members of the public, accompanied by his bandmates of the time. When the single was released in the US, a new animated video was produced for that market.

This is the second pressing with the slightly different sleeve.
The line of incorrectly translated Japanese text is taken out and the mix title appears at the bottom instead.

Amazing… this and several other Howard Jones singles I didn’t have digitally (but did have, in some cases on a 45 or vinyl) are here and the links still magically work, in this case 6 years after you posted them! Yahooooo! Thank you DJPaul!

The translation of the title into different languages is actually kinda funny! The german line would be “I’d Like To Get To Know You Better” and the greek ΘΑ ‘ΘΕΛΑ ΝΑ ΕΙΜΑΙ ΠΙΟ ΚΟΝΤΑ ΣΟΜ [thathela na ime pio konta su] means “I’d like to be nearer to you”, they also made a mistake, they wrote ΣΟΜ though it is ΣΟΥ (som/su).

I think that this version here is a good minute longer than the version on Howard Jones’ 12″ Album. They are both called the “International Mix’ but track times differ.

I clock it at only 6 seconds longer?

The ending *is* clean in this version though, rather than being cross faded into Pearl In The Shell

You’re right. Don’t know why I had that in my head. Its a good track – loved it when I was a kid.

This was the first Howard Jones song I heard, and it’s subsequently still my personal favorite. Thanks you!

I just had to post again. Paul I know that this blog keeps u quite busy but you should consider a small 80s new wave only blog like this where we see the likes of all those much missed artits like HJ,Spandau,Abc,Kajagoogoo etc.

I actually have this remix on his The 12″ Album which you have mentioned, but I enjoy downloading 12 inches from your site even if I own them myself either on vinyl or on cd.The sound in the recent posts is very clear and sharpe (Dead or Alive,Tears For Fears,Cher).
I think that you have reached the perfection in what can be ripped off out of vinyl.
Thank you DjPaulT.

I also have this 12″ single and also his 12″ Album on CD, but a DJ Paul T rip is too quality a rip to pass! Thanks Paul!
Surprisingly, just like Tears For Fears, Hojo never had a UK #1 on the Singles chart!
Happy weekend, Paul!

Thx Paul once again for this gem. I actually liked this ext. mix much more than the 7″ version.
