Burning The Ground Exclusive 1991
Spooky Season Spin
“Addams Groove” is a single performed by hip-hop artist Hammer that was released as the theme song to the 1991 film The Addams Family. It was the second single from his 1991 album, Too Legit to Quit, included in the track list for the cassette version of the album but not the CD. The song was his fifth and last top-10 hit in the United States and was the recipient of the Golden Raspberry Award for Worst Original Song at the 12th Golden Raspberry Awards in 1991. The single peaked at #7 on the US Billboard Hot 100. and #4 on the UK Singles Chart.
The song was also parodied by Italian comedy music duo Giovanni Alamia and Tony Sperandeo with the title of “Rap Ghiaccio” and was taken from their album of the same year of the release of the song “Brutti, sporchi e monelli”.
A music video was produced to promote the single. It featured Hammer and several of his dancers performing in their unique style around the Addams mansion as well as most of the cast of the film. The video opens with Hammer pleading with Wednesday (Christina Ricci) and Pugsley (Jimmy Workman) to refrain from chopping his head off with a guillotine. It concludes with several scenes taking place in the Addamses’ backyard cemetery, including Thing crawling up and down a Hammer dancer and Gomez (Raúl Juliá) dueling in a sword-fight with Hammer over Morticia (Anjelica Huston).
The music video was played prior to the beginning of the film during its theatrical release. The video also features a 13-year old Jimmy Rollins as an extra.

Thanks Paul for thinking outside of the box! What a great, quirky Halloween groove that’s not overplayed! The movie was great, with a terrific cast and great special effects. I didn’t realize this was as big a hit as it was. Thanks again!
You’re welcome, Retro Hound. Enjoy 🙂
That’s our, Paul, thinking outside of the “coffin!”
Have a great day, Retro Hound!
Jeff
Too funny! You really urn-ed that joke, haha… Thanks and have a great day yourself!
Hysterical!!😂😂😂
Jeff
Great choice, Paul, for a “Spooky Season Spin” (what a great name this is, Paul!)!! I had almost forgot about this tune. I loved the film but bought the film score and not the “song soundtrack.” You have the best tastes in Halloween music. What a treasure trove of “Kooky, Spooky and Oooky” songs you’ve compiled over the years. I need to go through your past postings and compile a list of your Halloween offerings. Please, keep them coming!! Jeff Bonus Beats: The Vic Mizzy theme song is the best!! There is a soundtrack for the television show, however it… Read more »
You’re welcome, Jeff. Thanks for sharing the trivia 🙂
Thanks Paul
Best regards
You’re welcome, Stefan. 🙂
What a great adaptation for a soundtrack. It was totally fun to hear this when watching the film. Great job, MC!
Oh my I almost forgot he dropped the “MC”! I also remember a rumor that Michael Jackson was supposed to provide the theme song at one point in development. This movie was the first movie I saw twice in the theater on the same weekend. It is hilarious. When Wednesday says her off script speech & concludes “that is why I’ve decided the scalp you and burn your village to the ground” I literally thought I might fall out of my seat with laughter. Classic. Thanks again.
Both of the Addams Family films are brilliant. It would have been interesting to hear what Michael would have brought to the film.
Turns out there is an excerpt that leaked online, it sounds incomplete, like a demo sketch, but is pretty cool, titled Family Thing (on YouTube).
Thank you, ING 🙂
