Great Nation – Beat The Wall (Canada 12″)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1986

“Beat The Wall” is a 1986 single by Canadian new wave band Great Nation released on Wide Angle Records. This is the only single released by the band and there is really no other information about them. It’s a shame really because this record really is pretty good and they could have gone further. But for whatever reason, they disappeared into obscurity.

Another great rip Paul, many thanks! Your obscure 80s selections are perfect, I am happy I am still discovering underrated non-european 80s synth-pop groups, I too love the sounds of the DX7, M1, Juno and all the legendary synthesizers of the 80s. Series like Miami Vice have inspired me to search for more unknown artists/producers of the 80s, the results are amazing and seem to never end…

Paul I love that your Totally Obscure 80s are always so genuinely obscure.
As usual, I don’t know this. 😀 His voice has a bit of a Seona Dancing vibe to it.

Totally unknown to me so I´m looking forward to listening to it. Thank you, Paul.

Happy Birthday to you, Paul. “Aquarius” is “Wassermann” in German, the direct translation would be “Waterman”. This equals “Aquaman”, so you definitely are a superhero. But we knew that all along, didn´t we? 😉

Celebrate, Paul, as all us us should celebrate life every day. I raise my glass to you, to Jeff and to all all our friends from this lovely community.

This song was remixed by David Rivkin better known as Minneapolis producer David Z and brother to Prince’s drummer, Bobby Z. He produced hits like Kiss, which was originally given to a new Paisley Park band “Mazarati” but was taken back by Prince at the last minute. Great Nation’s lead singer Paul Aaron was tapped by David Z to be in Mazarati, where he went by Aaron Paul Keith “Ace”. I guess that answers why Great Nation never went any farther. I mean, who would have passed up a chance to be in a Prince project in the ’80s? Mazarati… Read more »

Wow Paul! That’s a pure gem! What a great find for me. The more I listen to that song the more I love it. These are the posts I love the most. Thank you so much Paul for bringing this single out of the dark. It was a wonderful week with my favourite series and I made some great discoveries. Enjoy your special day tomorrow and have a great weekend.

This is a novelty for me, I had nowhere in my musical mind one of the many groups that were a meteor in the musical sky.
Thank you
