BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1984

Side 1

Glenn Frey Nov. 6, 1948 – Jan. 18, 2016.

Glenn Frey was the founding member of the 70’s rock group The Eagles. Glenn also had a very succesful solo career in the 1980’s including three Billboard top ten singles. Frey passed away at age 67 in New York City on January 18, 2016. Glenn Frey was a music legend he will be missed..

“The Heat Is On” is a song written by Harold Faltermeyer and Keith Forsey, and recorded by Glenn Frey for the American film Beverly Hills Cop (1984). The song was published as a single and as the fourth track of the album Beverly Hills Cop: Music From the Motion Picture Soundtrack (1984).

It was a major hit single in its own right, reaching No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in March 1985, behind “Can’t Fight This Feeling” by REO Speedwagon. It was also popular internationally, reaching No. 2 two on the Australian Singles Chart in 1985 and gaining peaks of No. 8 on the Canadian Singles Chart and No. 12 on the UK Singles Chart. In the United States, it is the highest charting solo single by any member of the Eagles.

The mid-to-up-tempo recording featured a steady drumbeat, synthesizer, and guitar, with a repeated saxophone riff framing the lyrical message. The guitar solo is played by Frey himself.

The song was ranked 784th out of 2006 songs by voting featured in the Triple M “Essential 2006 Countdown”.

I’ve been waiting long for you to rip this one! A sad occasion of course, but nevertheless I am very happy you took this one from your vast collection to give it a Paulity treatment. Thank you very much. I think it’s the only single from Glenn Frey that got a remix.

This was a monster hit. These are some good mixes, but the single version has such a recognisable fade in intro to it, that all this mixes sound wrong to me! LOL Where’s the intro????? LOL. Well, just cutting of the beginning of this mixes makes them sound more logical, at least the dance mix has a nice cold ending (single version fades out).
The movie was extremely popular, as was this song and the video for it, that whole year long! Anyway nice hearing this mixes albeit such a sad occasion.

Thank you very much Paul!!!

Just a question:

Is there any “extended version” more than 5:51 of “You Belong To The City”?
I know these two versions:

A You Belong To The City (Long Version) [5:51]
B1 You Belong To The City (Short Version) [4:22]

Thank you!

I’m asking this because there a 8:07 version in Youtube, which I think it’s not official…

It’s not official. It’s fan made. The only official extended version is 5:51 and can be found on all 12″ versions of the single.

I was sad to hear of Glenn’s untimely death recently. This is a great reminder of his solo work, which was one of my favourite singles in 1985.

Thanks Paul 🙂

How you make the heart skip its beats dear Paul!! Well, first off, thanks again for your brilliant rips of David Bowie’s dance-ography over the past two weeks plus. I have been in a state of euphoria ever since. And now, you posted a 12-inch I thought no one knew about. I have it courtesy of my old college radio station. They didn’t play much dance music on their frequency, so I was able to obtain the promo 12-inch for myself. I never thought I would ever hear it again. Thanks Paul for coming to my ears’ rescue!! Thanks for this! I’ve been searching for a good rip of this for years now.

Just for the sake of clarity, the first track is the ‘Extended Version’, not your regular ‘album version’.
