“The Heat Is On” is a song written by Harold Faltermeyer and Keith Forsey, and recorded by Glenn Frey for the American film Beverly Hills Cop (1984). The song was published as a single and as the fourth track of the album Beverly Hills Cop: Music From the Motion Picture Soundtrack (1984).
It was a major hit single in its own right, reaching No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in March 1985, behind “Can’t Fight This Feeling” by REO Speedwagon. It was also popular internationally, reaching No. 2 two on the Australian Singles Chart in 1985 and gaining peaks of No. 8 on the Canadian Singles Chart and No. 12 on the UK Singles Chart. In the United States, it is the highest charting solo single by any member of the Eagles.
The mid-to-up-tempo recording featured a steady drumbeat, synthesizer, and guitar, with a repeated saxophone riff framing the lyrical message. The guitar solo is played by Frey himself.
The song was ranked 784th out of 2006 songs by voting featured in the Triple M “Essential 2006 Countdown”.

Excelente el aporte
Excelente el sonido, me ha gustado mucho, muy bueno, muchas gracias amigo DjPaulT.
Thank you, Paul, I used to love this song!
Thank you very much Paul.
RIP Glenn
Thanks again Paul!!
You’re welcome CL 🙂
I’ve been waiting long for you to rip this one! A sad occasion of course, but nevertheless I am very happy you took this one from your vast collection to give it a Paulity treatment. Thank you very much. I think it’s the only single from Glenn Frey that got a remix.
Enjoy! Stefano 🙂
Maurice White R.I.P.!
Yes very sad.
This was a monster hit. These are some good mixes, but the single version has such a recognisable fade in intro to it, that all this mixes sound wrong to me! LOL Where’s the intro????? LOL. Well, just cutting of the beginning of this mixes makes them sound more logical, at least the dance mix has a nice cold ending (single version fades out).
The movie was extremely popular, as was this song and the video for it, that whole year long! Anyway nice hearing this mixes albeit such a sad occasion.
Thank you for sharing your comment Davos Via 45 🙂
Thanks for the great post, Paul. Love the mixes. Appreciate you paying tribute to Glenn Frey and David Bowie. You are awesome!
You’re welcome MusicMan3 🙂
Thank you very much Paul!!!
Just a question:
Is there any “extended version” more than 5:51 of “You Belong To The City”?
I know these two versions:
A You Belong To The City (Long Version) [5:51]
B1 You Belong To The City (Short Version) [4:22]
Thank you!
I’m asking this because there a 8:07 version in Youtube, which I think it’s not official…
Glenn Frey – You Belong to the City (12″ Version) (Vinyl)
https://youtu.be/unreAlRY2qU
It’s not official. It’s fan made. The only official extended version is 5:51 and can be found on all 12″ versions of the single.
No Gonzolo those are the only two vwesions of “You Belong To The City”.
Thank you very much Jon and Paul for your replies!
Another great post, Glenn Frey’s The Heat Is On, I will always remember because of the first Beverley Hills Cop film, that soundtrack was fantastic, this being one of my favourite tracks on the O.S.T, Thank You Paul.

First I want to thank you once again for the wonderful series of Bowie over the last weeks. Now another great tribute to Mr. Frey with these rare mixes. Paul you give me so much joy day after day. I can never thank you enough for your fantastic work.
Thank you Daniel I enjoy doing it 🙂
I was sad to hear of Glenn’s untimely death recently. This is a great reminder of his solo work, which was one of my favourite singles in 1985.
Thanks Paul 🙂
It was very sad Junior we lost some great artists at the start of the new year.
Many thanks Paul.

You’re welcome Ex15 🙂
How you make the heart skip its beats dear Paul!! Well, first off, thanks again for your brilliant rips of David Bowie’s dance-ography over the past two weeks plus. I have been in a state of euphoria ever since. And now, you posted a 12-inch I thought no one knew about. I have it courtesy of my old college radio station. They didn’t play much dance music on their frequency, so I was able to obtain the promo 12-inch for myself. I never thought I would ever hear it again. Thanks Paul for coming to my ears’ rescue!! I can… Read more »

Thanks for this! I’ve been searching for a good rip of this for years now.
Just for the sake of clarity, the first track is the ‘Extended Version’, not your regular ‘album version’.
You’re welcome John. The s-side is the extended version but not listed as such on the label.
