Thanks for this gem, Paul! I own the commercial copy of this 12″ and was planning to rip it one of these days, but you obviously saved me the trouble!
I hate requesting stuff, but could you squeeze the Pet Shop Boys “West End Girls” (Shep Pettibone Mastermix) 12″ that you have in your near-future posts? I’m making a compilation of their not-on-CD released remixes and my copy is really bad. I could use your excellent rip, though. Anyway, have a jolly holiday time!

A glittering upgrade for me, Paul. Boogie Thanks to ya!
Was gutted they didn’t do a proper 12″ for her Bourgie Bourgie single though…
btw, I have always wondered about this Stereo Mono thing. Is there any purpose for having a Mono on the single? Wouldn’t everyone want to play the Stereo side?

DjPaulT you are correct about club systems being sometimes in mono on purpose and I must say I spoke with many pro audio people that install that way for that “equal parts” of left and right channel. This idea was still being deployed decades later from the 1970’s. I have never cared for these fully mono systems. I see no purpose for a mono version in 1979 of a 12″ either. It is common to see promo only 7″ singles at that time have stereo and mono sides but I think that was for am radio and still I see… Read more »

Adding to Paul’s reply, many radio stations of that era had mono equipment as well, not to mention record buyers who still had mono record-players to play their records on. So, the mono side was to make sure one could listen all sound elements regardless on what equipment the record was played on.

That’s correct. Of course, stereo can be converted to mono by mixing (“summing”) the left and right channels, but this can result in some strange effects on the sound. The degree to which a particular song is affected depends on the content and how it was originally mixed in stereo…often, there are no noticeable problems when summing, but problems happen often enough that a specially created mono mix is preferable, when available.
