Freddie Mercury – Living On My Own (US 12″)

New 2015 Re-Rip!
Meticulously Remastered!

About the Re-Rip:

This is a brand new 2015 transfer using the Ortofon OM Super 30 stylus. The original transfer released in 2011 used the Ortofon 20 stylus. Although the 20 is a good stylus it does not have near the dynamics or tracking of the OM 30, thus providing better sound quality. Of note in 2011 I was using click repair on all of my transfers I have since abandoned that technique and now only manually remove all clicks and pops. It is a more tedious and time-consuming method, but the results are better. I also now use iZotope RX for all resampling. No processing or EQ is added to my transfers. Since 2011 my equipment has also been upgraded to a new pro-ject carbon turntable and higher quality tube for the Bellari pre-amp. If you grabbed the original 2011 release I hope that you will give this new transfer a listen I think you will find greatly improved. Enjoy!

“Living on My Own” is a song by Freddie Mercury, originally included in his first solo album Mr. Bad Guy. It was released as a single in September 1985 in the United Kingdom where it peaked at number 50. In the US the single was released in July 1985 but failed to chart.

The remixes included here are exclusive to the US and Brazilian 12″ singles.

I would like to know what it means to manually remove a click, because I use ClickRepair with automatic turned off. What kind of software do you use to remove clicks if ClickRepair isn’t what you use anymore? Just curious. And thanks for posting this 12″. 🙂

It’s worth mentioning that the subsequent re-release / remix version of this single (1993 I think) did considerably better in the UK, reaching number one. Do you have those mixes on your schedule?

Nice re-rip of another powerful Freddie song. Also a very good job by the producer on the Extended Mix, but still doesn’t come close to the monster huge ’93 mixes which took Living On My Own to UK’s No.1 !

Funnily enough with both the recent Freddie posts i was listening to this one last night! Didn’t hear anything wrong with it – there again i never do! Always appreciate a 2015 over a 2011 one as i’m sure you’re improved and learnt a lot since then (not to mention better equipment). Thanks for this i’ll happy download this new rip right now. Any more, new (to this blog) Freddie planned?

Can’t wait for Queen and hopefully some more Freddie! And for what you have planned for this month. As ever, it’s a pure delight!

Hey Paul, I’m so happy when you go into detail about your process to bring these tracks up to outstanding quality. It’s all very humbling since you do this for the love of music and for the people who hold you in high respect, reverence and love. Your generosity knows no bounds and your achievements are heart and soul warming. So many lost classics you’ve brought back from oblivion. This archive here is priceless and so valuable on so many levels. Yes, I do tend to say the same things over and over…and OVER AGAIN and AGAIN, but please know… Read more »
