Burning The Ground Exclusive
Few songs capture the shimmering essence of early-80s dance music quite like Evelyn King’s Love Come Down. Released in JUly, 1982 as the lead single from her album Get Loose, the track showcases King at the height of her Hi-NRG and post-disco powers, blending irresistible grooves with a voice that radiates both strength and sensuality.
Produced by the legendary Kashif, Love Come Down is a masterclass in 1980s pop-funk. The song opens with a pulsing synth bassline and tight drum programming, immediately setting the dancefloor-ready pace. Kashif’s production elevates King’s vocals, framing them with sparkling synth lines, rhythmic guitar stabs, and a subtly funky horn section. It’s a song that feels simultaneously modern and timeless, with a hook that’s impossible not to sing along to.
Lyrically, Love Come Down is deceptively simple, centering on the exhilaration and anticipation of love. Evelyn King’s delivery turns a basic theme into an unforgettable expression of desire and euphoria, making the track resonate as both a romantic anthem and a dance classic.
Commercially, the song was a massive success. It topped the Billboard R&B chart and cracked the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100, cementing Evelyn King’s reputation as one of the most versatile voices of her era. Over the years, Love Come Down has endured not just as a nostalgic relic but as a staple in club rotations, sampled tracks, and countless dance compilations.
For anyone exploring the intersection of post-disco, funk, and early 80s synth-pop, Love Come Down is an essential listen. It’s a perfect snapshot of a moment when dance music was evolving, and Evelyn King was right at the forefront, delivering a song that still moves bodies and lifts hearts more than 40 years later.

One of my favorite tunes of all time. Thank you much for sharing your vinyl transfer!
Excellent Rip, excellent song. But I like “I’m in love” more than this one. Hoping for the US Extended of “I’m in love” here on BTG….maybe one day……
Oh man, YEAH! This is the real deal – thank you for sharing this. I loved her songs … I wonder why she dropped the “Champagne” from her name by this time – I always like that!
Obrigado.
You’re welcome
Such an influential jam!! 1982 was a watershed year that gave us Thriller and Rio among many others. Evelyn King was certainly up there too. Thank you for this great 12 inch Paul!!
“Totally agree—1982 was a game-changer! So many groundbreaking albums and singles dropped that year, and Evelyn King was right there holding her own with the best of them. Glad you’re enjoying this 12-inch share!”
Thx Paul. Fantastic track. She has a lot of great tracks. My recommandation : Day to Day (Dance Mix). Check it out. Produced by Marshall Jefferson and Ten City.
“Thanks for the tip! Evelyn really does have such a deep catalog beyond the big hits. I’ll definitely check out Day to Day (Dance Mix)—especially with Marshall Jefferson and Ten City behind the production, that’s bound to be fire!”
Hey Paul This Jamm Is Also In My Top 10. This Is My Favorite Track From ECK . Also Around This Time Another Track Was Close To This Sound. Melba More – Loves Coming At Ya!! Thanks For The Jamm!!
“Love hearing that! Love Come Down is such a solid Top 10 choice, and Melba Moore’s Love’s Comin’ At Ya is a perfect companion track from that era—both absolute floor-fillers. Thanks for sharing the love!”
Great track — great memories! Thanks Paul.
You’re welcome, Brad 🙂
Classic. No notes.
“Couldn’t have said it better—an absolute classic through and through!”
I remember 1982 being such a diverse musical year and this was definitely one of my favourites.
A classic that still manages to stir the emotions.
Thanks Paul 🙂
“1982 really was such a standout year across so many genres, and I love that this one still hits you emotionally after all these years. Thanks for sharing that, Mark!”
Thank you!
You’re welcome 🙂
Oh wow how do I not have this song in my iPhone already? I LOVE this track and remember pre-teen to teen loving it so much. Always been a fan of the funky dance track! I remember being like oh wow this is that disco gal? 😆😆😆 💃🏿 🕺 🪩 she got the grooves now!
Thanks gain for the memories!
“Haha yes! It’s wild to think how Evelyn shifted from disco into these funky early-80s grooves—she totally nailed it. Love that this one brought back those memories for you!”
Classic early 80s club indeed! I used to hear this all the time in the mid 80s on the KISS Club (usually somewhere in the first 2 hours) and this track was so similar to Midnight Star and SOS Band’s tunes. I always found it strange that the opening lyrics are “No sleep last night…been dreaming of you.” Um, if you’re not sleeping you can’t be dreaming. 🙂 Thanks so much, Paul!!
“Haha, great point about the lyrics—I’ve thought the same thing! Totally agree, it fits right in with Midnight Star and SOS Band. Love that you were catching it on the KISS Club back in the day—what a time for club music!”
Excellent flashback to 1982, Paul. This was always club sophistication for me. Ms. King always set the floor on fire!!
Jeff
“Thanks, Jeff! Totally agree—this one just oozes club sophistication. Evelyn had that magic touch to light up any dancefloor!”
“Really appreciate that, Richard! 1982 gave us so many unforgettable tracks, and I’m glad this one brought back good memories for you.”
