BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1987
“Shame” is a song recorded by British pop music duo Eurythmics. It was written by band members Annie Lennox and David A. Stewart and produced by Stewart. The song appears on the duo’s sixth studio album Savage and was released as the second single in the UK. “Shame” was not released in the United States.
The track is a synthpop ballad in which the protagonist expresses regret and disdain for excessive and shallow lifestyles led by those who frequent nightclubs, bars, parties, and the like. The lyrics namecheck The Beatles and The Rolling Stones and mentions the song “All You Need is Love”.
“Shame” stalled at number forty-one in the UK singles chart, the first Eurythmics single to miss the UK Top 40 since “Julia” in 1985.

Thank you for these wonderful “Savage” posts – one of my favorite LPs of the 80s!!!
Thank you for these great mixes!
I am just getting caught up with your posts. Wow, what a great song and mix. I love Eurythmics and Annie Lennox. This is such an under-rated song. Annie’s voice is truly heavenly. Thank you for sharing this. I will be playing this one A LOT.
Cool to see another Eurythmics post. I thought this should of been a Top 40 hit here in the UK.
Thanks Paul 🙂
You’re welcome, Marco 🙂
Thanks Paul. Your Eurythmics rips are superb.
You’re welcome. Omar there are more coming 🙂
I know this LP was not necessarily well loved by fans , but I like it a whole lot. Thank you for it. Annie looked great in that wig!
It was always one of my favorites loved the whole concept and visuals 🙂
thanks so much really great album savage and i love the remixes thanks you again.
You’re welcome, janick 🙂
Only a minor hit and quite forgotten compared to Beethoven and Chill from the same album, Shame is one of my all-time favourite singles by the Eurythmics. I totally fell in love when I heard it for the first time. Well, I was 19 and life was almost PERFECT….
I felt exactly the same way when I first heard this beautiful track 🙂
Love this song. I wish the 7″ edit was on this release instead of the LP version, that version is one of Eurythmics’ MANY vinyl-only tracks that deserve a digital upgrade.
Agree the 7″ edit is nice.
The 7″ edit was released on ‘Pump It Up 88’, a various artist compilation CD from Australia. It’s 3:48.
Checking this out now since I’m not familiar with this mix. Thanks for the awesome upload, Paul! I got a little TOO excited since I saw “Shame” before I saw “Eurythmics” and was hoping that this was going to be a long-missed Xymox release from The Master DJPaulT! Cheers – and thank you!
Sorry about that dugn if I am not mistaken Shame is on the Blind Hearts 12 I will check if I have that one. 🙂
Thank you Paul. I love this song and remix. “Shame” does not belong to the best known Eurythmics songs but it’s one of my favorites.
You’re welcome, Daniel in my opinion Shame is the best track on the album.
