Eurythmics – Beethoven (I Love To Listen To) (UK 12″)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1987

NEW 2020 Transfer!
Meticulously Remastered!

Originally posted January 14, 2014

Nothing really new here as far as mixes on this 12″ but being a completest I wanted to include this 12″ so that all of the single releases from Eurythmics sixth studio album “Savage” were represented.

“Beethoven (I Love to Listen To)” is a song by the British pop music duo Eurythmics, released as the first single (in the UK) from their 1987 album, Savage.

It was written by group members Annie Lennox and David A. Stewart. Although not released as a single in the United States, the track appeared as a double A-side of the 12-inch single for “I Need a Man”, and received heavy rotation on MTV. It was a Top 20 hit in several European territories and also in Australia.

The Savage album returned Eurythmics to a more electronic sound and the “Beethoven” vocals are performed mostly as spoken-word from Lennox, with the exception of the repeated phrase “I love to” throughout the track.

Hi Paul! Okay, another one that I also own, but as always your rips sound so much better than mine… better equipment DOES make a difference! 🙂

And here I was, just thinking about something sleek to wrap around my turntable spindle… LOL

Dear Paul, dear American friends. I won´t comment on this fantastic rip of a great record. I just want to express my sympathies for you on this sad Fourth of July. I can only imagine how important this day is for all of you and how depressing it must be to “celebrate” under the current circumstances. My love goes out to you.

Unfortunately, something has changed in your setup that determines a treble boost beyond what is desirable. I have carefully compared all of your latest Eurythmics posts to the previous ones and have always preferred the previous transfers. I am sorry to say this Paul but it is the sad truth and I can assure you that my ears are very reliable since I have been working professionally in editing and mastering for decades.

I realized the sound “changes” this year so probably there’s something related to that. Sorry about troubling you but I just want to help. To my ears some harmonics in the high end are almost piercing, don’t know why, may be distortion or just a different freq response from the hardware. Anyway, I A/B tested the latest transfers with the previous ones and I always got the same impression, at first seems that the new one is more open because the highs but when I add just 1dB high boost to the old transfer, I choose the old because it… Read more »

I don’t want to jump on the bandwagon Paul and I think you do an incredible job too but to my ears too the transfer of the Chill Mix of You Have Placed a Chill… sounds ever so slightly ‘warped’ (compared with your last rip of it), like the record is a TINY bit off centre on the turntable. I know sometimes the cut outs are a bit bigger and a bit more irregular than they should be and it’s very tricky in those circumstances to centre the disc. Take a listen to this and the older one and see… Read more »

Fantastic end to this week. I think the Savage album was one of their best.

I love that front cover for this single.

Thanks Paul 🙂
