Happy New Year 2023!

This 1980 France Promo 12” Single is a rare collectors item for both ELO and Olivia Newton-John fans and sells for a nice chunk of change if you have the rare opportunity to find a copy. This promo is one of my favorite and prized possessions from my Olivia Newton-John collection. I hope you enjoy it.

The interesting thing about this particular release is that it contains not only Olivia’s hit single “Xanadu”, but it also contains a continuous mix of ELO’s “All Over The World” and “Last Train To London” as far as I know this mix is only available on this release. Also of note “All Over The World” is an edited version removing the crowd noise found on the intro of the “Xanadu” soundtrack LP version. “All Over The World” was released hot on the heels of the single “Xanadu” , this was the third Top 20 ELO single released from the 1980 soundtrack, peaking at #13 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. “Last Train To london” was was taken fom the 1979 ELO album “Discovery” the song was released in the US in early 1980 and peaked at #39 on the Billboard Hot 100.

“Xanadu” is performed by the Electric Light Orchestra and Olivia Newton-John. Newton-John sings the primary vocals, with ELO adding “parenthetic” vocals in the style of their other songs on the “Xanadu” soundtrack, along with providing the instrumentation. A rare collaboration for ELO, the single reached #1 in several countries and was the band’s only UK #1 single when it peaked there for two weeks in July 1980. The song peaked at #8 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US.

I hope everyone knows that is a RARE treat. The blended mix of All Over The World/Last Train To London is the only official 12″ mix of these songs. It is impossible to find it other than right here. If you didn’t play this record, you’d never know it even was a mix or that it even existed.

Thank you for this new recording.
The truth is that it sounds much better than the one you uploaded years ago. This one has more dynamics and definition, with better bass and treble.
You can see the Ortofon capsule!!!! I hope you upload new recordings of Disco music from the 70s and 80s.
I wish you a Happy New Year 2023!!!!

Thank you for sharing! My favorite recording by Electric Light Orchestra is their rendition of Roll Over Beethoven! I used to occasionally hear it on the barbershop radio when I was a young pup!

Xanadu… xan-a-duuu…
Still one of my all-time faves. We had all the 45’s from the movie and rented the VHS regularly. Had no clue the movie was a flop since the music was omnipresent at the time! So glad I got to see Olivia live and see her sing these songs! Maybe someday I’ll get to see ELO too. So would like to see a “complete soundtrack” deluxe remaster !!!! 🫶
