“Romancing the Stone” is a song written, recorded, and produced by Eddy Grant, who released it from his 1984 album Going for Broke. It was intended for the 1984 feature film of the same name, announced by Casey Kasem on the 30 June 1984 edition of American Top 40 as the title song, but ultimately was used only briefly in the film. Clips from the film appeared in at least one official music video for the song, and the song is mentioned in the film’s closing credits. The single release also uses the film’s logo.
In the United States, the song reached number 26 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 22 on Cash Box during the summer of that year. It was a much bigger hit in Canada, reaching number seven. It was also a hit internationally, narrowly missing the Top 40 in Germany and the UK, but reaching number 28 in New Zealand.
“Romancing the Stone” was a hit on two other US charts. On the Soul chart, it went to No. 68, on the Dance charts, it peaked at No. 12.

Well that long version is definately that… thanks for the song Paul! Somehow I thought the song did better in the charts, and that song had nothing to do with the Romancing movie (I thought it was just brilliant timing to hitch on the movie release, since a few songs had used the ploy)… I was wrong on both counts it seems. O well, lol.
Can you post Rock My World (Extra Terrestrial Mix) and dub mix was remixed and edited by Greg ski royal and taavi mote uk 12” tomorrow for request please

I watch this movie in movie theatre in Belgrade 1984, diamond be in krokodile who eats heand of korrupted officer.Song remember like yesterday.Eddie Grant made song with Serbian band Riblja Chorba on that time song named Amsterdam. EX Yugoslavia rock scene be verry verry good.Remeber that socialistic country with big rock scene.
I didn’t realize this charted as high as it did. Eddy Grant is a true talent. Who can forget the Electric Avenue video in heavy, heavy rotation on MTV! I think Eddy found the key ingredient to protest music, and that is it needs to be CATCHY. Little Steven must have been taking notes for his Sun City project. Thank you Paul!! You can always be counted on to bring these well-deserving hits back into the spotlight. Have a great weekend Paul, Jeff, Martika, Fred and everyone else rockin’ down to Electric Avenue!
Hope you have a great weekend, Retro Hound thank you for your music insight 🙂
DJ PaulT, please make me happy with the 12” 24-bit vinyl rip of
https://www.discogs.com/release/567533-Eddy-Grant-Boys-In-The-Street/image/SW1hZ2U6NDAyNzgxMTk= Boys in the Street by Eddy Grant – please. I just love you and your blog. Thank You!!!! YOU ARE AN A N G E L .
Thank you, I will see what I can do 🙂
I’m humbled to see you follow BTG, Mr. Kevorkian! Thank you for all your iconic remixes over the years we danced to and played for our clubgoers. Much respect
Perhaps a dissenting opinion, but I really love the Alan Silvestri score. I often listen to the end credits in particular. I just don’t see this fitting in alongside that score and the “How The West Was Won” (Alfred Newman) opening. This was best left out IMO.
Pop-Reggae at it’s finest. Thanks Paul! I’ve been enjoying your original long version rip for a dozen or so years 🙂
You’re welcome, rift 🙂
Yes! Love this track! Wish it was featured prominently in the film, that always irked me!!! Eddy deserved more love! Thanks again… have a great weekend everyone!
I agree. I don’t understand why they gave the song such a small part of the film. Have a great weekend 🙂
One of my favorite singles! The guitar solo on this track is so underrated. Thanks for the updated rip!
You’re welcome, Tim 🙂
And yet, another favorite! Like yesterday’s “Perfect”, I played this one on my college station! I loved it! I never got to hear the 12-inch until I discovered DjPaulT’s Burning The Ground site, and Paul, I’m elated to get a new rip!! I’ll be chomping on chocolate bunnies this weekend to the beats!! It was an incredible week Paul for beloved dance cuts!!
Have a great weekend, Paul!! Happy Easter too!! Song And Dance, Retro Hound, Martika, Daniel, ING, and others, have a great weekend/Easter as well!!
Jeff
You’re welcome, Jeff have a great weekend 🙂
