“Work That Magic” is a song from the album Mistaken Identity by Donna Summer. In some countries’ editions of the album (including the UK), the version of the song was a remix by ISA. This version was released as a single in the UK (in place of “When Love Cries”, which had been a single in America and Europe). While most of the album had quite an urban feel, this song was much more of a dance number. It peaked at number 74 in the UK Singles Chart.

She Never said that ! It was all cooked up to destroy her Career ! It’s the worst ‘How Long Have you been beating Your wife’ question/statement anyone could acuse her of saying. Shit sticks ! And for some the smell will never go away- which is very sad. Listen to the song ‘We Are Gonna Win-One World’ + tell me if you still feel the same – I was in tears !

I always loved the live simulation of the cheering crowd in the Extended ISA Remix and thought that a full length music video done to this version would have been great, with Donna bursting out onto the stage and the crowd going wild, lots of sweeping camera shots, varying angles and special effects. Anyway that’s the image I have in my head. The actual music video is cool too.

Great post! I bought the cd single of this back in the day and was so disappointed at the lack of mixes. I haven’t heard the other versions on this 12” and really looking forward to them. many Thanks x

Thanks for your reply Paul. Just playing the Extended ISA remix now – it’s awesome! This track really followed the feel of the PWL produced Another Time & Place and I was a bit disappointed when I heard the album – don’t get me wrong I love the album now – but at the time it wasn’t a sound I was into back then. Her 80’s comment about Aids being god’s punishment to Gay’s really hurt her career (and her massive Gay fanbase) and it took the “Power of 3” PWL masterminds to put her back in the UK top40.… Read more »
She never said that ! That was the rather sad side of the whole ‘story’. One -it wasn’t challenged sooner. Two -that it was ‘allowed’ to run so much. and 3 -that so many people believed she could’ve said anything like that. A little known ‘real’ fact was at the time this sh*t-storm was all over the press – she actually demoed a song about friends/people dying of AIDS. And although it was a battle that “We’re Gonna Win”. Many thanks for uploading this one. Huge Donna fan here and ripped my copy of this, but your rips are so much better. Is there any chance of you doing Donna’s “When Love Cries” 12″? Thanks for the great job you are doing with introducing and reacquainting folks to the all the great music we had the pleasure of experiencing in the last few decades and for keeping the music alive.
PS: Donna was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame last Thursday April 18th.
