Donna Summer – Donna Summer Mega-Mixx (US 12″ Promo)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE

DONNA SUMMER “THE QUEEN OF DISCO”! Her list of hit records seems endless. She was directly responsible for the success of Casablanca Records one of the major disco labels in the 70’s.

Five time Grammy winner Donna Summer was the first artist to have 3 Consecutive #1 double-disc albums on the US pop charts !!! This ultra rare nearly 15 minute mega-mixx showcases some of her biggest hits of the 70’s and 80’s.

This 12″ was only circulated to DJs and radio personnel in limited quantities by the now defunct US based remix service Mega-Mixx Industries Ltd. The year of release is unknown but probably in the late 80’s or early 90’s.

*Please Note: This is not an officially released single therefore the vinyl mastering may not be perfect. However I have made every attempt to restore this rare gem. In addition I have also included custom artwork and a scan of the record label.

Hey Paul,
Is it possible to re-post Donna Summer Megamix? I some how missed
the post back in 2012. I recently discovered I have this mix but it is of poor sound @128. I was downloading from many sites and I never got around to checking what I had until later. A lot shows up in my windows media player as unknown artists.
Thanks for taking time for my request.
Kent H. 🙂

Como está sua Mãe, espero que esteja bem. Uma pergunta, tem vezes que ao abrir um album aparece a mensagem DOWNLOAD NO LONGER AVAILABLE, O que posso fazer para poder baixar? Muito obrigado.

Hi. Yes i checked out the page linked above and came here to post another similar link. I would date this around 1990-1992… http://www.discogs.com/label/36642-Mega-Mixx-Industries-Ltd

I still haven’t had a chance to fire up the hi-fi and listen to this one yet. I live in a downtown apartment and can only listen during the day, after dark I can only play my television. My hi-fi even on a very low volume disturbs the neighbors in every direction, upstairs, downstairs, left, and right. And because I worked graveyards and mixed shifts for nearly 30 years, I have the worst time staying awake during the day, and prefer to stay awake all night long, so I want to sleep all day. Anyway, here is the discogs link… Read more »

This is one of my favorite megamixes from Donna. It is fantastic. Have it on vinyl and am THRILLED to get it with the DJ PaulT magic mastering. I picked it up in about 1993 and it had just arrived at the store. I think that may have been the release year. Of course, I’m not certain. That was a long time ago and memory starts to fade 🙂

Thanks Paul!

Thanks for this mix Paul, I’ve been reeling since the news of her passing. My fascination with Donna started in 1978 and I’ve been collecting her music and memorabilia ever since. I’ve also seen her live many times up until her last stop in Ft. Lauderdale in 2010. I may never recover from the loss of this extraordinary talent, that mezzo soprano voice that could sing absolutely anything and give any composition a life of it’s own. I can’t believe that her voice will never be heard live again in this lifetime. I would to hang on to every note… Read more »

Thank you Andrew. It’s good to know that there are others out there who share the same sentiments. She was truly a rare creature, one of which I fear we may never see or experience the likes of again. I am thankful for the times that I did witness her live performances because she had that rare ability of delivering ultimately masterful renditions of her songs that many times were better that the recorded versions. I remember her shows being so energetic, full of life and vibrant. It kills me to know that her unique catalog will never be presented… Read more »

‘her unique catalog’ – My thoughts on Donna’s back catalog are all over the web – I still think an ‘official’ release of the ‘Bruce’ duet would be a ‘hit’
The reason so many of us love blogs like this one (hi Paul ! xx) is this ‘fills in the gaps’ intentionaly [?] left by Record companies !

For example I read Grace Jones 1st LP was ‘remastered + reissued'(Portfolio)
Woop woop !
NO – It has precisely ‘Zero’ extra’s – and thanks to the Lovely Paul we get a chance to hear so many ‘Lost Gems’. xX

Wow! I’m definitely speechless with this post. Can I just say that I love, love this post and I think I already revealed how much of a megamix fan I am, so to see a Donna Summer rare megamix is just a fantastic treat on a Friday evening. Thank you Dj PaulT and have a great Memorial Day Weekend.

Thanks for your Donna post, Paul…I’m sure you’ve already something up your BTG-sleeves, and it’s gonna be disco-licious!
Speaking of Mega-Mixx, I recall buying a Janet Jackson megamix under that DJ service. IT was an awesome mix, but like you mentioned, the pressing is not pristine.
But since we can’t find these gems anywhere else, I’ll take it!
Plus, I have every confidence in your mastering, Paul! Happy Weekend and Memorial Day!

Great post BTG but there is something wrong with the pw…

‘burningtheground’ is not working on the 24-bit or flac, I did not try the Mp3 guessing the problem is similar.

Did the pw change?

Thanks in advance.

BTW – Fantastic collection of vinyls.
