BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1985
“Walk Like A Man” is a song originally recorded by The Four Seasons in 1963. American singer, actor and drag queen Divine recorded a Hi-NRG dance version of the song in 1985 which was included on the album Maid In England. Divine’s version peaked at #23 on the UK singles chart. Although the song received significant club play in the US it failed to chart.

Thanks Paul.
you’re welcome Omar 🙂
Well… what to say. Divine was the first, and perhaps the best?
I recently watched “I Am Divine” (http://www.divinemovie.com/) with my partner and we both loved it. Wished Glenn had lived longer. I think he was really just coming into a new level of energy when he died.
Thanks for the upload!
That is a really good documentary Jesse I recently bought it on DVD 🙂
Thank you Paul – Walk Like A Wolf is one of my fave 12” ers I met Divine in 1985, cooked his food and served and chatted with him in the hotel I was training in. He gave us complimentary tickets to his show for later that night. Such a lovely guy
Wolfie, thanks for sharing a great memory with us. This is another reason why I hold Paul’s Burning The Ground in such high esteem. Not just because of the quality of Paul’s rips, but how the community brings a lot of things that certainly add interest and joy to the posts. That must have been so awesome to meet Divine. He really was a wonderful individual and it’s too bad he is no longer with us. Another reason it’s tremendous that DjPaulT brings classics like these back to our ears and lives.
Thanks again Wolfie,
Jeff
very cool story Wolfie. Thanks
Yes, Divine was one of its kind!
But why you referring to him as SHE, as HE was a dude! LOL
He just liked dressing up as a Drag Queen.
Walk Like A Man is a solid Hi-NRG track, but not so powerful as the Bobby Orlando productions of the mega popular Native Love (Step By Step) or Shoot Your Shot, in many DJs
all time Top 10 favorite dance track list.
when Divine is Divine I consider her she 🙂
Thanks Paul! I had this 12 inch a long time ago. No idea what happened to it. This was a ‘dance floor’ classic when I started to go out clubbing. best to you!
Yep I remember dancing to this many nights at The Wreck Room in Oklahoma City great memories 🙂
I adore this song. Good to have it in superb quality, thank you.
You’re welcome Sam Lowry 🙂
Legend and that’s all.
Mothloop I so agree 🙂
Happy birthday Divine! even though it was yssterday! but it isnmt in on other side of the world 😛 thanx DJ Paul!! <3
You’re welcome Risildowgtn 🙂
You gotta love Divine!! She was the ultimate, from her cult status in John Waters’ movies, to her turn as a club singer, I just think she was awesome. Thank you Paul for breaking this twelve out. I do have a soft spot for the Hot Tracks version done by Bradley D. Hinkle who went on to form Ultimix, but I do love the original almost as much. I’m not even home from work and I’ve got the darn thing stuck in my head. Oh, the power of music and the power of a DjPaulT rip!! I’m in Heaven!!
Jeff
You’re welcome Jeff I adore the Hot Tracks mix too. Divine is one of my all-time favs there is nobody else like her. Her birthday was yesterday so I’m a little late 🙂 Enjoy!
