Celebrating BLACK HISTORY MONTH
“Experience” is a song recorded by American singer Diana Ross for her fifteenth studio album Eaten Alive (1985). It was written by Barry, Maurice, Robin and Andy Gibb, Barry also became a record producer with Albhy Galuten and Karl Richardson. Barry Gibb also performs backing vocals on the track.
The song was released as the third single from the album on April 4, 1986 in Europe, Australia and New Zealand due to the popularity of the previous single “Chain Reaction” in these territories. The song did not become a major success, in the UK it reached at number 47 and spent only three weeks on the chart. In the Dutch Single Top 100 chart, the single peaked at number 45; while in Dutch Top 40, it reached the Tipparade, peaking at number three and stayed there for eight weeks. The song performed better in Ireland, hitting the top 20 of the chart. In the US, the release did not take place due to the failures of past singles and the album as a whole.

Immediately recognizable BeeGees sound, very nice, did not know this one, though they had only produced this sort of music for Dionne Warwick.
correction: I thought they had…
Beautiful! Thank you for another great tune from Diana! And thank you for the Love & Positive Vibes celebrating Black History Month. I am a longtime fan & admirer your work & artistry, as well as the way your blog appears transparent. It seems to be emblematic, not only your love for the great music you share and all of the time & effort you commit to it, but also, it seems representative of your virtues, honesty, integrity, perseverance, inclusivity, equality and much more. And personally, these are extremely admirable traits and the world could use a lot more open… Read more »
PLESE don’t take this the wrong way Paul, but you may be pushing the high frequencies a little bit too much. Before your current transfer rig, turntable, etc. I play your transfers without any change in my EQ settings in Apple’s Music app and and they sound pristine. However in comparison, your current transfers show instances of too much sibilance. Where lyrical words sung with a lot of ‘s’s’ are harsh and come through almost too high and distort, including instruments such as hi-hats, etc. So for example, a 2020 transfer compared to the exact new 2023 transfer, clearly shows… Read more »
Really enjoying the selections during Black History Month – and always – your blog is a treasure. Thanks so much for this!
“Call Her, Miss Ross!” Wow, Paul! I wasn’t aware of this as a single, so thank you tons for this!! And, OH MY! A remix by Francois K. and Ron St. Germain too!! With the Gibb Bros. involvement here as well!! How you spoil us so, Paul!! I love your celebration of 80’s dance discs!! Whether they were big or not, the eclecticism on Burning The Ground is outstanding. Love how you further expand our scope into the music of the 1980’s!!
Can’t thank you enough!!!
Jeff
You’re welcome, Jeff it is always a pleasure restoring these sometimes lost gems. Enjoy 🙂
I love this album and am still shocked after all these years that it wasn’t a much bigger hit! I had no clue, however, that this song a had a remix! Fantastic!!! Too bad the Gibbs and MJ didn’t collaborate on an album! Thx!!!
The Gibbs brothers and MJ would have been awesome indeed 🙂
Wow another great rarity!! I have the Eaten Alive (with Michael Jackson) and Chain Reaction 45’s, but I wasn’t aware of this as a single… Obviously due to it not being released in the US. Thank you Paul as always!!
You’re welcome, Retro Hound 🙂
an absolutely lovely song, you can’t help but “hear” the Gibbs, and the instrumental is chill and moody, it would make a great soundtrack.
I agree it is a lovely record 🙂
