“S.O.S., Fire In The Sky” is a vibrant track from Deodato’s 1984 album Motion, released by Warner Bros. The song showcases a collaboration with vocalist Camille, with songwriting credits to Rick Suchow and Alan Palanker. Its energetic rhythm and captivating melody succeeded on the Billboard Dance Chart, where it stayed for 14 weeks, peaking in the Top 20 in 1985. Internationally, the song saw even greater success, entering the Top 10 on the pop charts in France and Holland, and securing the number one spot on the dance chart in Holland.

A personal favorite.
Deodato is one of our pop / funk genius. His albums from the 70’s are timeless for me.
Thanks Paul. This is a new one on me. Quite unusual for a US 12″ to be 45rpm isn’t it?
It is unusual but depends on the record label.
Can I be cheeky and quiz you a bit further on this one? I see there were 2 pressings of this, one Allied and the other I think was SRC. I see you have contributed to the Allied ones listing on Discogs. Can I then assume your copy is an Allied pressing? And where there are different pressings of the same release have you ever considered putting that info on the write ups on your postings?
Correct my copy is an Allied pressing. I list the pressing plant if the info is available on the release.
Thanks for clarifying Paul. I now feel stupid as I see now you (as you have just said) do include it…I didn’t look in the right place! Here’s a proper question so I don’t leave this feeling silly…what about label scans? I note you only do those when it is a generic sleeve copy. Why not on the others Paul?
I prefer not to place my records on the scanner bed unless it’s necessary.
I thought that might be it. Not wanting to get the vinyl damaged or dirty. Understandable. Thanks Paul 🙂
One of those songs I must have heard, but never identified who or what it was. What a nice blast from the past Paul! And kudos to you for featuring Deodato, an artist with such a long and varied career. Have a great weekend, and you too Jeff, Martika, DJ XREY and everyone else here!!
You’re welcome, Retro Hound. I have always loved this infectious track. Have a great weekend 🙂
Thanks for the great rip, Paul! This was played quite heavily back in 1984 and I recall it getting a lot of club play even in 1985 and 1986. I remember the opening ~15 seconds was used a lot for promoting the KISS Club’s weekly Saturday broadcast on 95.7 FM in CT. Have a great weekend!!
You’re welcome, Fred have a great weekend.
This really is a nice surprise, Paul!! I really like the songs by Deodato!! This is a great song to start the weekend!!
Have a great weekend, Paul, Retro Hound, Song_And_Dance, Fred, ING, and the rest!!
Martika, we miss you. Hope everything is okay. We’re thinking of you.
Jeff
Have a nice weekend, Jeff.
What a nice Friday surprise!!!
Thank you
