Debbie Harry – In Love With Love (US 12″ #2)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1987

A. Front

The UK single version of “In Love With Love,” was remixed and produced by the Stock Aitken Waterman production team, who at the time were producing many popular singles in both the UK and the US by artists such as Bananarama, Dead or Alive, Rick Astley, (and later Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan). As a result, Geffen Records issued a second 12″ of the song in the US including these UK mixes, labelling them “London Mixes”.

“In Love With Love” debuted on the US Billboard Hot 100 on July 4, 1987 spending seven weeks on the survey peaking at #70. In the UK the single peaked at #45 in May 1987.

Is there a chance to re-up #1 and #2? These are so rare gems and it’s kinda sad that they’re no longer available.

Hey Paul – not moaning coz I sorted it myself, but I know you’re a stickler for detail: The label and catalogue number are missing from the MP3 tags on these.

Thanks for the great rip – didn’t know this one.

(Prequel : might i dare listen to the infamous stock aitken and waterman-mix of a singer i like love and respect? (I am clearly not a s.a.w.-fan) Let me have breakfast and strong coffee first.) Sorry. I just had to skip through them. Horrific. Compliments on the rips though, you found bass where there was very little of it to be found. And thank you for the opportunity again, as i read here, there is a huge fanbass i just recently offended (sorry by the way) which you make remarkably happy with your efforts. No price to that, i just… Read more »

I actually found the generic SAW backing helpful, coz until the vocals I could imagine any one of their artists singing over the top, but once she started singing I realised how great and unique her voice is, something I’d not really thought too much about before.

Yes, we have our own generations’ Julie London of newwavepunkdiscoreggaejazzpop. Who would have thought that of a gogo-dancing rebelgirl?

Paul, I’m so glad you are alright. I had no idea about the tornado around Tulsa. Thanks to your readers though, I’m now informed. You’re amazing because I would be so scared with this kind of weather, but no one is really safe. Take care of yourself. You’re always in my thoughts.

Jeff

Yes!!! Sounds amazing! Much cleaner version than the previous one I downloaded years ago. Nice work. Thanks very much, Paul.

One more note, just ran across this review of the Carlyle show. They specifically mention “In Love With Love”: http://www.newyorker.com/culture/sarah-larson/uptown-rapture-debbie-harry-at-the-carlyle

Hey, I’m glad everyone was undamaged by the nasty weather. This has been one hell of a winter/early spring! Paul, thanks for the Debbie Harry. Just putting in my two cents that her Liar, Liar 12” is so fun but not easy to find. Saw the movie Married To The Mob recently and it made me want to hear it. That and Goodbye Horses by Q Lazzarus. Actually, it’s just an all around great (late) ’80s soundtrack. Watch it for the fashions too!

Plus, if I’m not mistaken (I often am) the edit of Bizarre Love Triangle is exclusive to that release as well.

Holy f*ck, the 12″ of ‘Liar Liar’ – remixed by Arthur Baker I believe? I have only heard of such rumblings through the years, had no idea it could actually be found!

I’m so happy to see Debbie Harry getting the recognition she deserves. The SAW Mixes or the PWL mixes WERE HUGE in this era. It’s SO hard to choose between Justin Struass and the PWL remixers. Phil Harding from the SAW team remixed a few of Debbie’s 12″ hits. He’s featured on the Sweet And Low Maxi Singles which ALSO has a two-part release. LOL. I hope to see Sweet And Low here in the future. Great dance track. But for now, In Love With Love is the focus. Great dance track from the main writing team from Blondie. Check… Read more »

She’s doing a residency at a New York venue. Something like two shows a night for ten days. I hear she’s been doing this song too.

Happy to see this today! Not just because I love the song, but also because I saw the news about the weather in Tulsa. Glad to see you’re operational (and apparently unscathed).

I’m in Missouri now, but traveling quite a bit, so won’t be here for long. I drive through Tulsa often, seems like a good town. I’d like to stop and check it out sometime.

On her “Most of All – Best Of” Compilation the edited mix was included; there it is titled “In Love With Love (SAW Remix)”

So timely of you to post these twelves of Debbie because she’s been in the news lately. I hear she’s putting on a show playing strictly from her solo period and maybe from the last underappreciated Blondie album. She really is so good Paul. Thank you for performing your magic once again on our past favorites.

Jeff

P.S. I also loved her “Sweet and Low” single. Thought I’d bring it up because I don’t hear many people mentioning this one.
