Dead Or Alive – Son Of A Gun (Japan 7″)

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1986

Although the UK received the most releases form Dead Or Alive, Japan somehow managed to make its mark in collectors eyes. As Dead Or Alive have received much adoration from the Japanese, the releases there have carried them far beyond Radio One. “Son Of A Gun” is one of those items released only in Japan. The track would become the fifth and final single released from “Mad, Bad And Dangerous To Know. The single was released just prior to the “Rip It Up” album and tour hence the picture sleeve. It is rumoured that the single is slightly remixed because Pete and the band always remixed their 7″ singles much like their 12″ counterparts. The track durations are a little different than the LP versions but not much.

This is a pretty rare Japanese item and one of my favorites from my collection.

Another rarity to share!
Thanks Paul!
And is this your longest stretch for a featured artist? LOL!
Thanks for your concern too, I’m safe where I am 🙂

Such a disapointment at the time that a 12” mix was never released – although the Silver Bullet mix of Your sweetness sampled son of a gun heavily. I had the 7″ suggested airplay of I Cannot Carry On – wish that had been remixed too.

“I Want You” appeared ina remixed form on the b-side. Sounded more demo-ish to me than an actual remix.

Wish Pete would get back in the studio and sing again.

Paul, The Silver Bullet mix of “You’re Sweetness Is My Weakness” is a DJ only remix by Peter Fenton. It is exclusively available only on Art of Compilation CD Vol. 7. I think you have to be a member to get those CD years ago kinda like Hot Tracks. But i see them surfaced on eBay from time to time. Here is the Discogs link:

I wish he would too. I never really got to see them Live either… I had my chance once upon a time. We had a local casino book them as a headlining 80’s act along with ABC, Belinda Carlisle, Talk Talk, Naked Eyes, & Human League. DOA canceled due to Pete having some medical condition. But I will say this, Human League DESTROYED IT!!!! so awesome to have checking all those off my “live List”. It would have been GREAT to finall see DOA…!! Damnit!

Different version of “I want you” ???? really? I tried to know about every release, but some apparently slipped by without a trace.

Better choice for a 1st single…I need to hear this remix tho…. I believe “I want you” was too much of a ballad for the 1st single. The needed to come back with a hot dance track, which Come Home…. was.

There it is!!!! Thank you Paul… to bad they never went forward on a full 12″ remix for this one… would have been an awesome song to remix. At this time SAW was onto bigger and better things. Many bands tried to ride the wave of the SAW sound to revamp the tired 80’s sound that was present at the time. One that comes to mind was Bananarama bringing in SAW to revamp their sound and give them more club/radio play. SAW were true pioneers in the reinvention of artists sound. Another example was the top 40 nosedive into Rick… Read more »
